BELMONT — Monticello picked up a nonconference win Dec. 7 over Belmont, 55-43.
The Braves led 21-12 in the first half, but the Ponies went on a 9-1 run to bring it to within a point. Belmont’s Kolton Westemeier scored at the buzzer to put his team ahead 24-21 at the half.
In the second half, Monticello opened on an 11-0 run and never looked back.
Pete Gustafson scored 20 points to lead the Ponies, with Reece Rufer adding 11.
Two days earlier, Monticello blew out Madison Country Day 86-33. In that contest, Gustafson had 26 points, Rufer 12 and Simon Blohowiak 12. The Ponies led 61-14 at halftime.
New Glarus 51, Lena-Winslow 32
LENA — The Glarner Knights scored a nonconference win at the State Line Shootout Dec. 7.
Mason Martinson led New Glarus with 15 points, while Nathan Streiff and Darris Schuett each had eight. Luke Benson and Isaiah Bruce each scored 11 for Lena-Winslow.
The Knights hit just two 3-pointers but finished 15 of 22 from the free throw line, including a 10 for 15 mark in the second half.
New Glarus led 14-8 after the first quarter and 24-11 at halftime.
Jefferson 73, Brodhead 69
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals trailed by three at halftime and couldn’t finish off a comeback in a Rock Valley Conference loss Dec. 6.
Josiah Engen had 15 points to lead Brodhead, while Brady Malkow had 10, Cade Walker 11 and Owen Leifker 13. Jefferson’s James Monogue had 26 points.
Darlington 59, Iowa Grant 55
DARLINGTON — The Redbirds picked up a tight SWAL victory Dec. 6.
Iowa-Grant had three players in double figures.
Argyle 57, Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose 19
MADISON — The Orioles led 27-6 at halftime and outscored their opponents by 17 in the second half.
Clay Ritschard led Argyle with 12 points, while Miken Godfrey scored nine.
Highland 68, Pecatonica 45
HIGHLAND — The Vikings fell behind by 11 at halftime and couldn’t recover in a nonconference loss Dec. 5.
Max Oleson scored 24 points to lead the Cardinals in scoring.
Two days later at the State Line Shootout in Lena, Pecatonica lost to Forreston 61-33.
Potosi 60, Black Hawk 37
SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors trailed by just three points at halftime, but the Chieftains found their scoring stroke in the second half, outscoring Black Hawk 43-23.
Austin Uppena led Potosi with 17 points.
