RIO — The Vikings took to the road during the holiday break, where they dropped two games in the Rio Tournament on Dec. 27-28.
Despite the losses, Pecatonica head coach Linda Hendrickson saw moments of promise.
“We played hard and the score is not representative of how we played,” Hendrickson said. “We competed at times, but we lost focus and that can be detrimental very quickly on the scoreboard.”
The Vikings opened the tournament with a 57-40 loss to host Rio. Pecatonica trailed just 26-20 at halftime, but Rio ran away in the second half with 31 points.
Chloe Schraepfer scored nine points in the first half, with four of them coming from the free-throw line. She added another four free throws in the second half, paired with a 3-pointer, for a team-leading 16 points. Schraepfer was perfect at the charity stripe.
Anna Tisch was the second-highest scorer with 14 points. She had five in the first and nine in the second. All of her shots were within the arc, including two free-throws. The remaining scorers were Loretta Tisch and Diana Hendrickson with four points each, followed by Brianna Peterson with two.
Rio was led by Emily Logning with 21 points and Emma Sampson with 14 points. Riley Landsverk scored six points, all from 3-pointers.
On day two, Poynetted doubled up Pecatonica in a 61-30 game.
Schraepfer and Puma’s leading scorer Hadley Walters went point for point, scoring 17 points each. Schraepfer drained three 3-pointers and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Walters, conversely, had just one 3-pointer with the remainder of her points coming from inside the arc. The rest of the Viking offense was unable to keep up, though.
Anna Tisch and Peterson each had four points, while Loretta Tisch and Kaisen Kolb chipped in two points each. The final scorer was Brooklyn Johnsrud with a free throw. Poynette’s second-highest scorer, Grace Gavinski, also finished in double figures with 12 points.
