Pec picks up two big wins

BLANCHARDVILLE — Pecatonica picked up a pair of key wins on the volleyball court last week. The Vikings edged rival Argyle in five sets Sept. 22, then blanked Blanchardville in three sets Sept. 24.

In the 25-22, 25-15, 15-25, 21-25, 16-14 win over Argyle, Lily Busser had a team-high 10 kills for Pecatonica. Busser and Tessa Green each had six digs, while Lexi McSherry finished the night with three blocks and four aces. Niveah Gross had six aces and five digs. Chloe Schraepfer notched three aces and nine assists, and Sydney Eaton led the team with 13 assists.

“Both of our setters had a great night,” Pecatonica coach Liz McGowan said.

In the 27-25, 25-13, 26-24 win over Barneveld, Green led the Vikings with nine kills, 10 digs and four aces. Eaton had 14 assists and two aces, while Gross finished with 12 digs. Schraepfer added six kills and 10 assists. McSherry finished with three blocks and two aces, and Lexi Peterson added five blocks.

“It was a fun game. We did lots of different things with people,” McGowan said of her lineup. 

Despite mixing up the lineup, the Vikings battled to win two of the sets in bonus time. McGowan said that getting the two wins in a row was a real confidence boost to her team, which is now 2-2 on the season.


Monticello 3, Albany 0

ALBANY — Ellie Gustafson had 11 kills to pace the Ponies to a sweep over the Comets Sept. 24, 25-13, 25-12, 25-9.

Monticello received four aces each from Katelyn Eyler and Macey Grant, which helped spark the offense. Defensively, Grant finished with a team-high seven digs, while Hannah Clark had three blocks and Delenn Gillaspie 13 assists.

Jada Flannery and Mady Conway each had four kills for Albany. Flannery added a block and two aces, while Conway had two aces of her own. Payton Firth also had four assists and two aces, and Aayliah Landen paced the Comets with five digs.

In other action, Juda fell to Barneveld Sept. 22, 22-25, 13-25, 5-25.
