Pec nets big win; Darlington stifles Fennimore

BLANCHARDVILLE — Three Vikings reached double figures in a runaway 67-37 nonconference win Jan. 2 against Weston.

Freshman Chloe Schraepfer scored a game-high 19 points for Pecatonica (3-6), which received 18 points from Lexi Peterson and 12 from Tessa Green.

The Vikings led 34-19 at halftime.


Belleville 59, Monticello 39

MONTICELLO — The Ponies fell behind by 19 at halftime and couldn’t climb their way back into the game against the Wildcats in a nonconference affair Jan. 3.

Belleville (7-3), which outscored Monticello 30-11 in the first half, was led in scoring by Ava Foley, who had 23 points. Ceci Grefsheim added nine.

Miah Brokopp led Monticello (4-5) with 14 points, while Harley Disch added 10.


Albany 76, Johnson Creek 31

JOHNSON CREEK — The Comets led by 17 at halftime and then outscored the Bluejays (1-8) in the second half 36-8 during their nonconference game Jan. 3.

Albany (6-3) had four players in double figures: Brianna Dahl (14), Kristin O’Bel (13), Kaiya Zurfluh (10) and Jada Flannery (10). Payton Wachholz added nine points and Lily Brewer had eight.


Darlington 52, Fennimore 40

FENNIMORE — The heat picked up in the second half, and so did the scoring in the Redbirds’ big SWAL win over the Eagles Jan. 3. It was also the first win for new coach Jen Wellnitz.

Darlington (4-4) led just 19-13 at halftime, but the second half featured almost double the amount of points, with the Redbirds outscoring Fennimore (4-6) 33-27 over the final 18 minutes. 

Brenna McDonald scored 17 points to lead Darlington. Allison Thompson finished with nine points and Lizzie Schwartz has eight.

Brynlee Nelson was almost the exclusive Fennimore scorer, finishing with 29 points.


Black Hawk 62, Dodgeville 38

SOUTH WAYNE — The top-ranked Warriors worked themselves to a 13-point lead at halftime and finished the job in the second half of their nonconference game Jan. 4.

Black Hawk (8-0) was led in scoring by junior Bailey Butler, who had 18 points, eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists. Sister Hannah Butler had 16 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.

Black Hawk was just 7 of 24 from beyond the arc (29.1%) and struggled from the line, going just 5 for 17. The Warriors also committed 27 fouls and had 20 steals against the Dodgers (5-4).


Brodhead 67, East Troy 34

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals outscored the Trojans by 24 points in the first half en route to a Rock Valley Conference win Jan. 3.

Abbie Dix scored 21 points to lead Brodhead, while Annika Oliver finished with 11, Kylie Moe 10, Shyleigh Condon nine and Carissa Purdue eight.

East Troy made seven 3-pointers and just four 2s. The Trojans were also 11 of 24 from the free throw line. Brodhead had 19 2-pointers, five 3s and finished 14 of 21 from the line.

In other area scores, Argyle defeated Parkview 43-39 on Jan. 2, and Belmont knocked off Juda 71-33 Jan. 4.
