SPRING GREEN — Pecatonica’s offense backed a solid performance on the mound by Lane Busser en route to topping River Valley by mercy rule 11-0 in five innings April 1.
Busser allowed just four hits and struck out three with no walks through five innings.
“Lane pitched really well,” Vikings coach Jim Strommen said.
The offense found its groove early, scoring three runs in the first, all coming on four consecutive two-out hits.
“We hit the ball really hard up and down the lineup. We had guys on base in every inning,” Strommen said.
Pecatonica (2-1) scored four runs in the second, two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Everett Johnson was 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Griffin Gordon was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Zander Brunker was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Vikings.
Parkview 14, Monticello-Albany 6
ORFORDVILLE — The Vikings jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning and were ahead 10-1 through five during their game April 2. The Ponies then scored five runs in the top of the sixth to put on the pressure, but Parkview countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to stretch the lead.
Josh Dahl took the loss on the hill for Monticello-Albany, allowing seven runs (five earned) on two hits and five walks in an inning-plus. Andy Gertsch pitched a third of an inning, and Trayden Foster gave up five runs on eight walks and a hit in 1.2 innings. Corbin Kelley pitched the final three innings for the Ponies, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk.
At the dish, Dahl, Cole Femrite and Devin Holtz had all three of the Ponies hits. Foster walked three times and had two steals, while Dahl also swiped a pair of bags.
Adrian Meza got the win on the mound for Parkview, allowing two runs in five-plus innings with 10 strikeouts and four walks. Justin Balch allowed four unearned runs in two innings with four strikeouts.
Brodhead-Juda 15, Big Foot 12
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals scored 11 runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away from the visiting Chiefs April 2.
Trailing 5-3, the first three Brodhead-Juda hitters reached in the fourth. After a strikeout, Jake Miller walked in a run and then Quinton Kammerer torched a grounder to short that was mishandled, allowing all baserunners to advance and the tying run to score. Marco Bueno then singled to center, bringing home two runs. It was a lead the Cardinals would never relinquish.
Payton Johnson and Conner Green then brought home two more runs to put Brodhead-Juda up 9-5 headed into the fifth.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Andrew Brockwell hit a two-run triple to center, and Kammerer, Quinton Harris and Cody Malcook each drove in runs.
Big Foot would score five in the sixth and two in the seventh, but Cade Walker slammed the door shut on the mound for the save. Brockwell got the win on the hill, allowing five runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
Bueno, Johnson and Malcook each had three hits, while Cade Walker and Brockwell had two hits at the dish. Leadoff man Chase Harnack was 1 for 2 with three walks and three runs. The Cardinals had six defensive errors, while Big Foot had five.
Lake Mills 13, New Glarus 0
LAKE MILLS — The young Glarner Knights pitching staff struggled against the Division 2 L-Cats, which finished 12-3 a season ago. Lake Mills scored two runs in the first and one in the third before exploding for 10 in the bottom of the fourth.
New Glarus trotted three players to the mound in four innings, allowing 13 runs (five unearned) on 13 hits, four walks and a hit by pitch. The Knights struck out just four batters in four innings.
Meanwhile, Lake Mills pitcher Sam Giombetti allowed just three hits and four strikeouts with no walks in five innings.
Cuba City 9, Darlington 4
DARLINGTON — After beating Belmont in the season opener and then losing to Fennimore in Game 2, the Redbirds couldn’t hold down the Cubans in Game 3.
Cuba City led 5-4 after five innings but scored four runs in the final two frames to score the SWAL victory April 2.
Preston Banfield took the loss on the hill for Darlington, throwing five innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks. He allowed two homers and struck out two. Barry Schliem pitched the final two innings, allowing four unearned runs on four hits and a strikeout.
Nick Andrae was 2 for 4 with a double for the Redbirds, and Carter Lancaster was 2 for 2 with a hit by pitch.
