Pec-Argyle to team sectionals; WarBirds advance 2

LANCASTER — Darlington-Black Hawk took fifth at the WIAA Division 3 wrestling regional Feb. 9 at Lancaster, finishing a point behind Iowa-Grant/Highland. Fennimore was the team champion, followed by Lancaster and Mineral Point.

Lief Bredeson (32-5) was the only WarBird to win a regional title. Bredeson, a heavyweight, pinned both opponents, including Mineral Point’s Garrett Ward (22-14) 55 seconds into the championship match.

Kolbe Ubersox (33-4) also advances for Darlington-Black Hawk after finishing second. Ubersox lost to Fennimore’s Trevor Wanek (25-13) in the championship match 6-3.

Carson Lobdell (23-15) was third at 170 for the WarBirds, as was Cayden Milz (27-9) at 160 and Hunter Bredeson (27-11) at 152.

Elsewhere for Darlington-Black Hawk, Cashton Hauser (106) was fifth, Aiden McGuire (113) sixth, Joseph Standaert (126) fifth, Owen Huschitt (132) fifth, Brady Horne (145) sixth, Simone Guidi (195) sixth and Karl Seffrood (220) took fifth.

WIAA Division 3 Parkview Regional

ORFORDVILLE — Pecatonica-Argyle won the team title at the WIAA Division 3 Parkview Regional Feb. 9. The Vikings scored 201 team points, finishing ahead of Waterloo (177.5), Johnson Creek (151) and Parkview (144).

Pecatonica-Argyle will now grapple as a team at the Fennimore team sectional, originally scheduled for Feb. 12 with weigh-ins at 5 p.m. and the semifinals beginning at 6 p.m.

Dawson Gross (26-11), wrestling at 106 pounds, was first, winning his only match by pin in 110 seconds.

Noah Krahenbuhl (23-1) was the individual champion at 120-pounds, defeating Deerfield’s Jack McDonough (25-15) by pin-fall in just 75 seconds.

Easton Schraepfer (36-7) also was a regional champion, winning by technical fall in the semifinals and then holding off Parkview’s Korben Brown (28-4) in the championship, 4-0.

At 182, Tate Hirsch (16-15) took first place, winning both of his matches by major decision. 

Lucas Gilbertson (33-10) was second winning his opening match by pin-fall before being pinned himself by Parkview’s Chase Carratt (31-7).

Elsewhere at Parkview, Pecatonica-Argyle’s Dalton Turner (160) took third, losing in the wrestle-back to Johnson Creek’s Anthony Purpi by a 7-2 decision.

Hunter Rodebaugh (113) was fifth, Christian Orloff (126) third, Dakota Doescher (132) third, Lane Busser (145) third, Zander Brunker (170) fifth and Dayne Lawinger (285) fifth.
