ORFORDVILLE — The Parkview Vikings used an 11-0 run early in the second half to pull away from the Brodhead Cardinals and win 64-41 in nonconference boys basketball on Monday, Dec. 29.

Senior Aiden Crane led all scorers with 24 points and senior Oliver Friedrich added 18 points to lead Parkview. The Vikings held a 32-18 halftime lead and increased it to 38-23 with 12 minutes left in the game. That’s when junior Kase Hazeltine made a free throw, senior Corbin Williams buried a three, junior Louis Nath scored off a steal and senior Gage Burrrell made a free throw to increase Parkview’s lead to 45-23. Crane followed with a free throw line jumper and another basket  to put Parkview in control at 49-23 with 9:09 left in the game.

Senior Sam Searls, senior Nolan Bump, and sophomore Logan Krupke each scored eight points to lead the Cardinals, who lost their sixth straight game to begin the season.

Brodhead coach Tommy Meier said his team struggled offensively, but found a bright spot in how the Cardinals played defensively. “I was happy with the defensive effort, holding them in the 50’s-ish until the end there. We can live with that. We’ve been playing a lot of zone this year. We played a lot of man tonight. That was a good defensive effort, we’ve just got to get better offensively,” remarked Meier.
