ARGYLE — With a full-court press and trapping in the corners, Argyle-Pecatonica forced 38 turnovers in its 82-50 win over Potosi-Cassville on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

“We were able to speed them up and force some tough passes that we were able to turn into points on the other end,” Argyle-Pecatonica head coach Jen Krogman said. “I think we have a team full of confident kids that make a lot of things happen.”

The Orioles, who have moved up the Division 5 ranks to No. 6, took a 10-point lead less than six minutes into the game. Ten minutes later, Maddie Hirsch went to the free-throw line. Her basket gave Argyle-Pecatonica a 38-18 lead. By halftime, the Orioles led 40-21. By the end of the game, they won by more than 30.

Brooke Wellnitz paced the team with a double-double — scoring 28 points with 10 rebounds. Kylie Butler also scored in double figures with a team-high 29 points. 

“A lot of people look and see Brooke and Kylie because of all of the points, but a lot of those come from the team running things correctly,” Krogman said. 

Maddie Hirsch, Loretta Tisch and Anna Tisch — who combined for 11 points — contributed in other ways. Loretta Tisch tallied five assists, Anna Tisch had five assists and Hirsch recorded six steals with five rebounds. 

NEW GLARUS 66, LANCASTER 47

LANCASTER — Despite a tight second frame, New Glarus’s 18-point first-half lead was enough to overcome Lancaster on Tuesday, Dec. 5. 

Lindsey Schadewalt recorded another double-double — her fourth in five games — with 30 points and 10 rebounds. She was 10-for-12 at the free-throw line with a pair of 3s. Elle Lancaster also scored in double figures with 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Payton Schneider led the team with seven assists. 

In the second week of the Coaches Poll, New Glarus retained its No. 3 standing in Division 4.

JEFFERSON 69, MONROE 31

MONROE — The Cheesemakers held an 11-8 lead early in the first half, but the Eagles went on an 11-point run and never looked back en route to a conference win on Tuesday, Dec. 5. 

Monroe bested Jefferson in two statistical categories — 2-point field goal percentage (40.7%) and fouls (15-12). Delaney Fortney led Monroe with six points, while Abbey Matley grabbed a team-high four rebounds and six deflections. 

DARLINGTON 50, RIVERDALE 35

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds used a 16-point run in the second half to defeat the Chieftains in their SWAL opener on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Darlington bested Riverdale in all but three statistical categories — rebounds (24-33), free-throw percentage (54.2%-80%) and 3-point percentage (12.5%-25%).

Three Redbirds finished in double figures, led by Aubrey McCarthy with 13 points. Maddie Gratz tallied 12 points, followed by Sadie Goebel with 11 points. Niasia Niedziejko grabbed a team-best five rebounds, while Jaidyn Evenstad led in assists (5) and deflections (7).

EDGERTON 60, BRODHEAD 43

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals dropped their second conference game to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Edgerton, ranked No. 6 in Division 3, had three players in double figures.

Allie Dahl paced Brodhead with 12 points and six rebounds. As a team, the Cardinals were 21-for-31 at the free throw line (67.7%). Addie Yates was 7-for-8, Danica Demrow 4-for-4 and Makenna Schooff 4-for-5.

EAST DUBUQUE 57, BLACK HAWK 40;

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN 60, BLACK HAWK 32

SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors split a pair of games in a two-day span, dropping their record to 2-5.

In Black Hawk’s loss to East Dubuque on Monday, Dec. 4, Maddy Lange and Mya Milz finished in double figures. Lange tallied 19 points with seven free throws, while Milz recorded 10 points.

WARREN 43, JUDA 28

DURAND 32, JUDA 26

JUDA — The Panthers are still seeking their first win after a pair of losses in a two-day stretch. 

Lavinia Rufer led Juda in its game against Durand, scoring seven points. Phoenix Homan and Briliey Swedlund followed with five. Katie Brooks paced the Panthers against Warren with nine points. Swedlund and Rianna Sullivan chipped in six.
