Oregon tops Monroe; Argyle tops Belmont

MONROE — The Cheesemakers dropped a Badger West game to rival Oregon 12-2 May 6.

The Panthers used a 5-run third inning to go up 6-0. The two squads traded runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but Oregon scored four in the bottom of the sixth to walk off the field winners via 10-run mercy rule.

Karis Paulson and Katie Witt each had two hits for the Cheesemakers, who were out-hit 15-7. Katrina Sathoff took the loss for Monroe, allowing six runs (three earned) in three innings. Sophie Golembiewski pitched the final 2.2 frames for Monroe. 

Lauryn Etienne earned the complete game victory for Oregon, scattering seven hits without walking a batter. Hailey Baumann was 4-for-4 with four RBIs for the Panthers. 


Argyle 5, Belmont 0

BELMONT — The Orioles scored a big nonconference win May 5, blanking Belmont.

Grace Ganshert tossed a 1-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks. At the plate she was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and three runs scored from the leadoff spot. Maggie Godfrey added a double and drove in a run, while Lindsay Conners walked twice. 

Argyle scored a run in the top of the first, added two more in the fourth and insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings.


Brodhead 9, East Troy 3

BRODHEAD — Ava Risum struck out 10 on the mound and belted three doubles at the plate to go along with a pair of RBIs and runs in a May 5 win over the Trojans.

Cora Hafen was 2-for-4 with a home run, and Taetum Hoesly had three hits and two RBIs for Brodhead. 

The Cardinals trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the third, but outscored East Troy 9-1 the rest of the way.


Turner 1, Brodhead 0

BRODHEAD — The powerful Cardinals lost a tight pitcher’s duel May 6 on the road.

Mckenna Young struck out 12 while allowing just two this and a walk, but took the loss for Brodhead. The Cardinals struck out just twice but scattered four hits across seven innings against Turner pitcher Ryleigh Rose, who tossed an efficient 70 pitches in the complete game shutout.


River Ridge 15, Monticello-New Glarus 10

MONTICELLO — The Ponies were knotted up in a 7-7 tie after five innings, but the Timberwolves put up a 6-spot in the top of the sixth, and added two more in the seventh to win a nonconference game May 5.

Veronica Tollakson was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored for MNG. Dalana Trumpy, Kylie Liegel, Katelyn Eyler and Ellie Eichelkraut all collected two hits. Trumpy had three RBIs, two runs and a triple. 

Jaden Zuber allowed seven runs (three earned) in two innings of work on the hill. Kira Whisler then tossed 3.1 innings, allowing four runs. Tatum O’Bel pitched the final 1.2 innings for MNG, allowing four runs. 


Barneveld 2, Pecatonica 1

BLANCHARDVILLE — A sixth inning, 2-run home run from Hailey Larson lifted the Eagles passed the Vikings in a Six Rivers East pitcher’s duel May 7.

Pecatonica had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Nivaeh Gross walked, then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball two pitches later. Bri Peterson then singled to left — breaking up a no-hitter — and scoring Gross.

In the top of the sixth, Barneveld’s Izzy Leahy singled to center to leadoff the frame. Then, with two outs and Leahy at second base, Larson sent an 0-1 pitch from Chloe Schraepfer over the fence in center field to make it 2-1.

Barneveld out-hit Pecatonica 6-2. Schraepfer struck out eight, walked three and hit a batter. Daelynn Rhoades struck out eight and allowed a run on two hits and a walk in five innings. Nicole Fahey pitched the sixth and seventh innings for the save, walking a batter and striking out three.


Pecatonica 9, Benton-Shullsburg 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings got a stellar performance on the mound from Chloe Schraepfer, and plenty of hits across the lineup in a May 5 Six Rivers crossover win over the Miners.

Schraepfer finished with 11 strikeouts while allowing just three hits in a complete game effort. 

Bri and Lexi Peterson, Nivaeh Gross and Trinity Gruenenfelder all doubled for Pecatonica. Maddie Hirsch had two singles and Lexi Peterson drove in two runs. 


Southwestern 13, Darlington 6

DARLINGTON — The Wildcats raced out to a 10-2 lead in the top of the fifth in a SWAL game May 6, but the Redbirds kept it interesting, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

Josie Thomas and Cayla Golackson each had two hits for Darlington, Ella Winslow adding a double and three RBIs.

Sophie Wiegel tossed all seven innings for the Redbirds, allowing seven earned runs.


Boscobel 14, Darlington 8

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds couldn’t catch up to Boscobel May 5.

The Redbirds trailed 9-8 entering the seventh, then allowed five runs in the final frame.

Sophie Wiegel and Josie Thomas each had two hits, while Cayla Golackson and Thomas drove in two runs apiece. Wiegel, Golackson and Mila Gille each doubled.

Wiegel took the loss in the pitchers’ circle. Boscobel out-hit Darlington 19-9.
