NEW GLARUS — While the annual NGM/Belleville clash means a lot to the players and supporters of each school, they care more about the health of those involved. Both communities, separated by just five miles of pavement on Wis. 69, are unanimous in their well wishes, thoughts and prayers for Belleville senior Landry Yarbough, who went down with a scary injury just seconds into the second quarter.

The Glarner Knights faced a fourth-and-long with a 7-0 lead on their rivals. By the end of the next play, Yarbough laid on the ground in pain, and medical staff quickly took action. The game was delayed by an hour as Yarbough was attended to, first by a trainer, then by EMS. Ultimately, with both teams off the field and fans stunned in silence, Yarbough was taken by MedFlight to UW Hospital in Madison for a neck/head injury, where he was released the next day. Details on the injury or his condition were not available at press time.

After play resumed, the Wildcats, ranked eighth in Division 6 and finished a game away from state in 2021, dominated, scoring the final 34 points of the game to take a win for the third straight time in the rivalry.

Logan Derke had a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter, and Aidan Keyes hit DeMarcus Conner for a 24-yard score just 49 seconds before half. Keyes and Kaden Desmet connected for a 46-yard score less than a minute into the third quarter, and Conner had a 40-yard pick-6 four minutes later to make it 27-7. With 5:22 left in the fourth, Keyes found Andrew Ace for a 7-yard score.

Keyes ended the night 19 of 25 passing for 231 yards and three scores. Derke had 78 yards on nine attempts. Ace had 10 catches for 83 yards, while Conner finished with four for 74.

NGM quarterback Max Marty was 8-for-22 for 69 yards with two INTs. He also had 87 yards rushing. Lawrence Vasquez had 69 yards rushing.

Belleville (2-0) travel to Potosi-Cassville (2-0) in Week 3, while NGM (0-2) will be at Beloit Turner (2-0).
