No. 2 Sauk rolls Monroe; Brodhead, NG, Argyle, Darlington score sweeps

MONROE — The Cheesemakers were swept by second-ranked Sauk Prairie Sept. 14, 25-6, 25-12, 25-16.

In the opening set, the Eagles went on a 17-0 run that took the score from 5-4 to 22-4 before swapping out libero server Alia Schlimgen. In the second set, Sauk Prairie didn’t go on one long run, but several runs of more than three points. The Cheesemakers progressed in the third set, scoring 16 points, but it was not enough to topple one of the state’s best.

Sauk Prairie scored on 31 assists, while the Cheesemakers only registered five. Monroe recorded 46 errors on the night, while Sauk Prairie committed 29 that turned into Cheesemaker points. Monroe did out-serve the Eagles, 88.6% to 79.7%. 

Monroe’s Lydia Butler had the team’s only two aces and served at 100% rate. She also had a team-high nine digs. Kyla Ziolkowski had three kills to lead Monroe, with Taylor Broge and Maggie Hawkinson each finishing with one kill. Olivia Wiegel had four assists on 24 sets. 

Schlimgen finished the night with a team-high five aces, as did Aida Shadewald. Eleven Eagles recorded at least one kill, with Olivia Paukner leading the way with 10. 


Brodhead 3, Big Foot 0

WALWORTH — The Cardinals swept Rock Valley rival Big Foot Sept. 14, 25-23, 25-19, 25-14.

Alexis Kammerer completed the match with two aces, 43 assists, six digs and three kills. Abbie Dix had 20 kills, five blocks, seven digs and an ace. McKenna Young tallied 10 kills and a block. Kirstie Fish had three blocks and an ace, while Madyson Kail notched 11 digs and an ace. Daisy Nelson led the Cardinals with 18 digs, and Addison Yates added eight kills. 


New Glarus 3, Wisconsin Heights 0

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights have opened the Capitol Conference slate strong and kept it going Sept. 14, toppling the Vanguards in a tight sweep 25-23, 25-21, 26-24.

Grace Nommensen had nine kills, 14 assists and nine digs for New Glarus. Lindsey Schadewalt added five kills, 11 assists, seven digs and three aces. Ellie Eichelkraut had three blocks and two aces. Emma Marty finished with 11 digs and three blocks, and Amber Horn tallied 10 kills to lead the team.


Argyle 3, Albany 0

ALBANY — The Orioles outscored the Comets by 32 points in a 3-set sweep Sept. 14, 25-13, 25-18, 25-12.

The balanced scoring effort of Argyle saw Grace Ganshert and Maggie Godfrey each record seven kills, while Breann Flannery and Tori Lantz each had five. Godfrey had five aces, with Flannery scoring on two aces. Ganshert had a team-high 21 digs, while Flannery and Godfrey each had 11. Megan Johnson dished out 23 assists.

Brianna Dahl led the Comets in four categories on the evening. She had seven kills, two aces, four blocks and eight digs. Alana Durtschi added six digs and Payton Firth added four assists.


Pecatonica 3, Juda 1

JUDA — The Vikings toppled their Six Rivers East foe Sept. 14, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14.

Lexi Peterson finished the night with 13 kills and three blocks for Pecatonica, while Chloe Schraepfer had five kills and 13 assists. Tessa Green had 20 assists and two aces. Nivaeh Gross added two aces and seven digs. Siri Thronson had six blocks for the Vikings.

Libby Jordan led Juda with seven kills, while Jerzie Lerch finished the night with three blocks. Susan Farias tallied three aces, Jackie Nusbaum dished out 19 assists, and Morgan Schneeberger and Ciarrah Davis each ended the evening with 21 digs.

In other area action, Darlington swept Iowa-Grant 25-22, 25-13, 25-14.
