SOUTH WAYNE — The Warriors had plenty to celebrate on Black Hawk’s Homecoming and Senior Day.
The No. 1-ranked Black Hawk-Warren co-op need to run just 30 plays to score eight times en route to a 55-0 Six Rivers Conference victory over the Boscobel Bulldogs on a chilly afternoon Oct. 12 at Murphy Field.
The Warriors (8-0 overall, 5-0 Six Rivers) had two one-play scoring drives and two two-play scoring drives in the game while rolling up over 400 rushing yards against the Bulldogs (0-8, 0-5).
The Warriors led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter and took a 42-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
“Our focus this week was to take care of ourselves. For the most part, it was a pretty clean game. Our kids were pretty sound in their assignments and they played hard. It was a good day,” said Warriors’ head coach Cory Milz.
Senior running back Cayden Milz ran for 179 yards on only 12 carries with touchdown runs of nine, 55, 39 and 14 yards to lead the way for the Warriors. His big performance also put him over the 1,000-yard mark for the season.
Homecoming King Cody Blosch — a senior running back — added 84 yards on just six carries with TD runs of four and two yards. Senior running back Jaylen Rufenacht ran three times for 60 yards with a score (33 yards) and freshman Lucas Milz chipped in with 24 yards on three carries with a TD (2) for the Warriors, who did not complete a pass in the game.
The Warriors’ defense pitched its second straight shutout while limiting the Bulldogs to just 25 yards of total offense in the game. The guests didn’t earn a first down until the nine-minute mark of the fourth quarter and turned the ball over three times.
Senior Josh Lozada and Cayden Milz each recovered fumbles for the hosts, and senior Andrew Schlichenmeyer intercepted a pass.
Black Hawk-Warren averaged nearly 14 yards per rush while holding the Bulldogs to less than a yard per play.
The Warriors can secure their third-straight outright Six Rivers Conference title Oct. 18, when they head to Blanchardville’s McKellar Park to face the Pecatonica-Argyle Vikings (3-5, 1-4).
“That’s going to be a good one to finish off the season. Pec-Argyle will not be making the playoffs this year, but we know they are going to bring a playoff intensity to that game. We look forward to the challenge they present,” Coach Milz said.
