NEW GLARUS — Have a game, Darris Schuett.

The senior quarterback helped lead the Glarner Knights to a 34-7 thumping of Poynette April 1. Schuett finished with 407 passing yards, completing 25 of 44 attempts and finishing with 4 passing TDs and another rushing TD in the win, as well as a converted 2-point conversion.

Schuett’s main target in the game was senior wideout Nathan Streiff, who had 12 catches for 187 yards and 2 TDs. Streiff is the first player in program history to grab 100 catches in his varsity career. Senior wideout Peter Gustafson had 111 yards on 4 catches with a score, and seven total Knights caught passes in the game.

New Glarus-Monticello scored almost immediately to open the game, as Schuett connected with Streiff on a 29-yard pass just 1:22 into the contest, but the Knights failed to convert a 2-point conversion pass. Later in the first quarter, Schuett hit Gustafson for a 36-yard TD. Senior Jaylynn Benson connected on her first PAT of the season to make it 13-0.

In the second quarter, Schuett and Streiff connected again for a 10-yard score, with Schuett running in the 2-point try to make it 21-0. With just 41 seconds left before halftime, Schuett plunged into the end zone from two yards out and Benson’s PAT made it 28-0 at halftime. In the third quarter, Schuett hit Streiff for a 31-yard score.

Poynette’s only points came on a touchdown pass with 1:21 remaining in the fourth quarter.

NGM outgained Poynette 493-186 in yards and gained 18 first downs to the Pumas 5.
