NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights scored a comeback 67-64 victory against rival Belleville Jan. 21.
The Wildcats led 40-35 at halftime, but New Glarus took advantage of Belleville’s foul trouble and hit a plethora of free throws down the stretch. The Knights were just 4 of 10 from the line in the first half, but over the final 18 minutes of the game finished 9 of 15 in the second half. Belleville was whistled for 18 fouls in the second half and saw two players foul out.
Nathan Streiff led New Glarus with 15 points, while teammates Mason Martinson (14), Connor Siegenthaler (12) and Garrett James (12) also reached double figures in scoring. Siegenthaler and James both hit three 3-pointers.
Sawyer Fahey had 19 points for Belleville, with 11 coming from the charity stripe. Kody Fahey had 17 points and Brody Duerst finished the contest with 11.
Monticello 83, Dodgeville 51
MONTICELLO — The fourth-ranked Ponies put a licking on the Dodgers in a nonconference game Jan. 21.
Monticello’s Pete Gustafson scored a game-high 36 points — his third time this season with more than 30 points — while teammate Reece Rufer added 22. Gustafson entered the contest averaging nearly 22 points per game, while Rufer is averaging a shade under 20 for the Ponies (13-0). Gustafson, a junior forward, is now just 269 points away from joining Rufer, a senior post player, in the 1,000-point club at Monticello.
Jacob Buchanan led Dodgeville (1-12) in scoring with nine points.
Darlington 59, Mineral Point 57
DARLINGTON — Cayden Rankin had 18 points and Carter Lancaster scored 16 as the Redbirds pulled away with a tight SWAL victory Jan. 21 thanks to a pair of free throws with just 12 seconds remaining. Mineral Point led by four at halftime.
Lancaster added nine rebounds and Rankin was 7 of 9 from the field, including 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. Curtis Stone had eight points and was 2 of 5 from 3-point land. Stone entered the week fourth in the state in Division 4 in 3-point percentage.
Belmont 50, Juda 31
JUDA — Gavin Kammerer had 11 points for the Panthers, which lost a nonconference game Jan. 21.
Avery Sheaffler scored eight points and Royce Brauer added six for Juda.
The Braves led 24-11 at halftime.
Argyle 61, Highland 39
ARGYLE — The Orioles used a monster second half to pull away from the Cardinals in a nonconference game Jan. 20.
Both teams entered the locker room tied at 22. In the second half, Argyle bombarded Highland at both ends of the court, outscoring the visitors 39-17 over the final 18 minutes of the game.
Highland was led in scoring by Max Oleson, who had 16 points.
Turner 91, Brodhead 67
BELOIT — The Cardinals trailed by 11 at halftime and could never catch up to the Trojans in their Rock Valley Conference game Jan. 21.
Senior Jordan Majeed scored a game-high 39 points for Turner. Teammate DJ Wash added 14 and Kenny Draeving chipped in 10 points.
Brodhead was led by Owen Leifker, who finished with 18 points. Cade Walker had 12, Connor Green 11, Brady Malkow nine and Cody Malcook added eight.
Warren 73, Black Hawk 54
SOUTH WAYNE — In a battle between opposing Warriors, it was Warren that came out on top in their nonconference game Jan. 20.
Matthew Riedl and Ethan Williams each scored 18 points for Warren, which led 31-20 at the half. Avery Baumgartner led Black Hawk with 16 points, while Jaylen Rufenacht added 13.
The two-school co-op in football, and the physicality continued on the hardwood, with 55 total fouls called between the two teams.
