NEW GLARUS — Senior Izzy Durst scored 26 points and Barneveld’s defense held New Glarus to just 15 points in the first half as the Barneveld Eagles rolled past the New Glarus Glarner Knights 57-34 in nonconference girls basketball on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Durst scored 21 points in the first half as Barneveld got off to a 24 point halftime lead at 39-15.
Junior Ellie Brenkman scored 10 points to lead the Glarner Knights. Junior Kate Parman and junior Kalia Malaise each had seven points for New Glarus.
New Glarus (5-4) hosted Platteville in a nonconference boys-girls doubleheader on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Argyle-Pec wins Marshall Holiday Tournament championship
MARSHALL — Argyle-Pecatonica captured the championship of the Marshall Holiday Tournament with a 76-46 pounding of the Marshall Cardinals on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
The 78ers won their fifth straight road game and improved their record to 8-1 overall. Argyle-Pecatonica came into the game ranked No. 1 in the Bound-Wisconsin/Zaleski Sports girls basketball media poll.
The day before, senior Kylie Butler scored 27 points and junior Brooke Wellnitz put up a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Argyle-Pecatonica to a 56-53 win over Laconia in the semifinals.
Wellnitz also had six assists and senior Loretta Tisch added eight points as the 78ers held off Laconia, a team that reached the Division 3 State Tournament last year and won the Division 4 State Championship two seasons ago.
AP led 29-22 at halftime and held on for the win as the Spartans took a 31-27 advantage in the second half.
Argyle-Pecatonica hosted Benton at Blanchardville in Six Rivers Conference action on Friday, Jan. 2.
Darlington wins Bangor Holiday Tournament
BANGOR — The Darlington Redbirds got their fourth straight win by topping the Bangor Cardinals 45-39 in the semifinals of the Bangor Holiday Tournament on Monday, Dec. 29.
In the championship game on Dec. 30, Darlington defeated Stratford 44-35.
Darlington improved their record to 5-3 with the wins.
In other girls basketball on Tuesday, Dec. 30, Brodhead defeated Stoughton in a nonconference game 71-62.
On New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, Monroe defeated North Boone (Ill.) 60-39 in a nonconference game.
