New Glarus earns season sweep on Senior Night

NEW GLARUS — Seniors Morgan Pulvermacher, Kenzie Tschudy, Reagan Mimetz and Audry Brueggemann won their last regular-season home game with a 25-14, 25-21, 14-25, 25-18 victory over Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday Oct. 15.

With injury and illness plaguing the team for a majority of the season, the Knights have been without a consistent lineup. But Junior Ella Woodmansee stepped up when her number was called, recording 20 digs and three aces as the libero. Kalia Malaise chipped in 20 digs and 13 assists. Pulvermacher put up six aces, while Kate Parman led the offense with eight kills. In the middle, Ellie Brenkman had six solo blocks. 


BRODHEAD 3, EVANSVILLE 1

BRODHEAD — Nearly the entire rotation had double-digit digs in the Cardinals’ final conference game of the season on Oct. 15. Addie Liefker (16), Allie Dahl (18), Ava Risum (14), Gretchen Kammerer (13) and Makenna Schooff (15) hit the floor for all but one of the team’s digs. 

Brynn Reisterer led the offense with 11 kills and a .194 hitting percentage. Kammerer recorded 30 of Brodhead’s 33 assists. The team put up 12 aces, led by Leifker, Dahl and Kammerer with three each.


MINERAL POINT 3, DARLINGTON 0

MINERAL POINT —  The Redbirds struggled at the service line, leading to a SWAL sweep on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Darlington won just 18.6% of points when it was serving, largely due to its nine errors without a single ace. The Redbirds had a collective 79.1 serve percentage.

Maddie Gratz led the team with eight kills, while Lilly Ritchie had the highest hitting percentage at .222. Gratz was also a large presence at the net with one solo block and three assisted for four total. Allie Andrews led the team in both assists (15) and digs (7). Catie Hartwig also had seven digs.


MONTICELLO 3, ALBANY 1

ALBANY —  The Ponies defeated the Comets 25-14, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16 on Oct. 15, and it all started at the service line. Monticello had 22 aces and 10 errors for an 89.8 serving percentage. Madi Hauser led the squad with eight aces, followed by Sadie Wilkins with five, and Dalana Trumpy with four. Kennadee Johnson didn’t have an error in 18 attempts for a perfect serve percentage.

Trumpy was a spark on offense with 21 kills and five errors for a .410 hitting percentage. Wilkins and Johnson split setting duties, combining for 38 assists. On defense, Jillian Ryan had two blocks while three Ponies had double-digit digs — Audrianna Schraufnagel (17), Braelynn Holz (11) and Trumpy (14).

Anna Ellinger supplied the energy for Albany with seven aces, 16 kills and 11 digs. Ellie Modaff had a team-high 22 assists with 10 digs. Emma Thompson led the Comets with 13 digs.


ARGYLE 3, JUDA 0

ARGYLE —  The Orioles allowed just 30 points total in a 25-12, 25-9, 25-9 sweep of the Panthers on Oct. 15.

Claire Holmes led the team with five aces, while Brooke Wellnitz was perfect from the line with two aces in 31 attempts. Kylie Butler led the offensive attack with 12 kills. Mya McNett distributed the offense with 28 assists. McNett, Wellnitz and Butler kept rallies alive with a combined 32 digs.

Rianna Sullivan was the only Panther to have a positive hitting percentage, recording four kills in 18 swings with just one error. Miah Elmer tallied eight assists, and Kennedi Lerch led the team with 11 digs. 

In other local volleyball, Black Hawk fell to Barneveld in three sets. The Eagles, who had been receiving honorable mention recognition in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll for much of the season, finally cracked the top 10 at No. 9.
