SOUTH WAYNE — The Knight defense flipped a switch in its nonconference game against the Warriors, allowing just two points in the second half en route to a 69-19 victory on Monday, Jan. 9.
The offense also impressed, as 12 different players scored, led by Breckyn Thompson, Ethan Friedrich and AC Strok with nine points each. Ja’Kodey Strahm chipped in seven points, while Jack Douma and Jake Roth tallied six each. Max Marty and Brett Warrell scored five points, followed by Jack Leonard and Leyton Mihlbauer with four. The remaining five points came from Max Parman (three points) and Lawrence Vasquez (two points).
New Glarus made nine 3-pointers — two each from Thompson and Roth and one apiece from Parman, Friedrich, Strok, Warrell and Mihlbauer. At the line, the Knights shot 12-for-19 for 63%.
Conversely, Seth Dunlavey led Black Hawk with 11 points, including the only two in the second half. He and Trae Hagen accounted for the Warrior’s two free throws. Lucas Milz tallied five points, including a 3-pointer. The remaining three points came from Andrew Figi (two points) and Hagen (one point).
DARLINGTON 72, RIVER VALLEY 35
DARLINGTON — With a double-double from Carver Fitzsimons, the Redbirds stifled the Blackhawks on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Darlington scored 33 points in the first half and added on with 39 points in the second for an easy victory.
Long scored a team-high 22 points with six threes, followed by Fitzsimon’s 17-point and 10-rebound, double-double performance. Will Murray also scored in double figures with 16 points. Three different players tallied five points: Reagan Jackson, Riggs Black and Broker Buschor. The remaining two points came from Levi Carter.
Despite being narrowly outrebounded 37-36, Darlington made 28 field goals compared to River Valley’s 15. The Redbirds also bested the Blackhawks in free throws (7-for-10 to 4-for-9) and 3-pointers (9-1).
EDGEWOOD 66, MONROE 52
MADISON — The Cheesemakers had a 12-6 lead in the first half but were unable to maintain it, falling to Edgewood in a conference road game on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Down by six with eight minutes left in the half, the Crusaders tied the game at 12 just a minute later. Edgewood never looked back, as they closed the half on a 23-6 run. Monroe cut the deficit to eight points multiple times in the second half with threes from Braden Rupnow, but that’s the closest they got.
James Seagreaves and Tucker Markham tallied 19 points each, while Seagreaves was one rebound away from a double-double. Monroe made four 3-pointers, with Rupnow accounting for half of them. At the line, the Cheesemakers shot 75% going 12-for-16.
CAMBRIDGE 80, MONTICELLO 55
MONTICELLO — The Blue Jays used a series of runs to defeat the Ponies in a nonconference game on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
After an early 7-7 tie, Cambridge went on a 17-2 run for a 24-9 lead. In the last eight minutes of the half, Monticello outscored Cambridge 19-15. The Blue Jays took a 43-24 lead into the locker room, though. Cambridge started the second half on a 12-2 run. Monticello ended the half in control as they did in the first, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
Jackson Eyler led Monticello with 21 points, followed by Nick Roe with 12. Ian Schwartzlow tallied eight points. On the boards, Austin Skibbe led with three rebounds, followed by two each from Ryer Indergand, Roe and Eyler.
Conversely, Cambridge had four players in double figures, with a team-leading 30 from Matt Buckman.
