New Glarus clinches Division 5 playoffs

NEW GLARUS — Tied 14-14 at halftime, New Glarus outscored River Valley 22-6 in the third and fourth quarters to claim a 36-20 victory. With the win, the Knights (6-3, 4-3 SWC) clinched a WIAA Division 5 playoff spot.

Matt Roth was 6-for-8 passing for 120 yards and one touchdown. His TD pass went to Andrew Sarbacker, who had three catches for 79 yards. On the ground, NG tallied 266 yards. Luke Burton led the squad with seven carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Roth also had a rushing TD.

Defensively, Milo Johnson and Charlie Sarbacker combined for three interceptions. Simon Zimmerman led with 18 tackles, followed by Brent Weeden with 10.


RICHLAND CENTER 56, BRODHEAD-JUDA 28

RICHLAND CENTER — The Cardinals needed to defeat the Hornets in order to even be considered as a playoff team, but they came up short, 56-28, dashing their postseason hopes. Richland Center (4-5, 3-4 SWC) scored in every single quarter against Brodhead-Juda (2-7, 2-5).

Separated by 47 total offensive yards, the difference was two interceptions. Brodhead-Juda QB Gabe Bockhop was 19-for-29 passing for 349 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Richland Center QB Jayden Schoepp was 4-for-4 passing with 189 yards and three touchdowns.

David Masloske had the lone rushing TD for the Cards. He finished with 11 carries for 20 yards. Brody Riese was Bockhop’s main target, finishing with five catches for 132 yards and two TDs. Braylon Strehlow, who had four catches for 82 yards, hauled in the other TD.


DARLINGTON 35, BELLVILLE 7

DARLINGTON — Following a conference-championship loss in Week 8, Darlington limited Belleville to negative rushing yards and just 177 total yards in a 35-7 win on Oct. 18.

Meanwhile, the Redbird offense compiled 379 yards, with all but 30 of them coming on the ground. Dante Glendenning had seven carries for 85 yards and two TDs. Zeke Zuberbuhler (7-85) and Isaac Crist (4-35) also had rushing TDs. In the air, Zuberbuhler connected with Maddox Goebel for a passing TD.

On defense, Sloan Glendenning forced two fumbles, and Ross Crist and Calum Crist had a sack each.

Rayden Taylor took over at QB, finishing 13-for-34 for 178 yards. His main target was Charley Spiegel, who had five receptions for 77 yards. On the ground, Treyton Myers tallied 11 yards on two carries.

Defensively, Spiegel had a forced fumble, and Sam Arndt had a pick. Marcus Hebgen led the Wildcats with 13 total tackles.

LOURDES ACADEMY 41, PARKVIEW-ALBANY 6

OSHKOSH — The Knights scored all 41 of their points in the first half of a Week 9 win over the Vikings. Lourdes’ offense was fairly balanced with 214 passing yards with four touchdowns and 175 rushing yards with two touchdowns.

The lone score for PA came on a 12-yard rush by Kaden Zurfluh. The Vikings went for the 2-point conversion, but Caleb Smith was stopped short of the end zone.


RIVER RIDGE 56, 

PECATONICA-ARGYLE 8

PATCH GROVE — The ninth-ranked team in Division 7 had a 28-0 lead over Pecatonica-Argyle in just the first quarter. With two scores in two of the three remaining halves, River Ridge cruised to 56-8 Week 9 win.

The lone score for PA was a 17-yard pass from Martin Anderson to Jeremiah Collins. Anderson also ran for a successful 2-point conversion. He finished 15-for-29 passing with 120 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The Vikings were held to 26 rushing yards. 

On defense, Ashton McNett had a forced fumble and Luke Leonard hauled in an INT. 


HIGHLAND 50, MONTICELLO 0

MONTICELLO — The Ponies were unable to hang with the second-ranked team in 8-player football, resulting in a 50-0 loss on Oct. 18.

Tanner Hilliard was 3-for-7 passing for 46 yards. On the ground, Hunter Grossen had 93 of the team’s 135 rushing yards. Presley Ladwig (8-62) was the only other rusher with positive yardage. Defensively, Jesse Wettach had a team-high nine tackles.

A solo team for the first time in more than 40 years, Monticello had a winless season. The Ponies scored 56 total points and will look for the program’s first win next year.
