Henning Pitches No-Hitter In Cardinals’ 13-0 Win Over Delavan-Darien

Freshman Mady Henning may never forget her starting pitching debut for the Brodhead Cardinals, a 13-0 win over the Delavan-Darien Comets in nonconference action. With regular starting pitcher Ava Risum, a senior, playing at shortstop, Henning delivered a gem — a no-hitter in five innings over Delavan-Darien on April 3. Henning just missed out on a perfect game as she walked just one batter and struck out 14 of the 16 batters she faced. In the pitching circle and at the plate, the Cardinals dominated. Senior 1st baseman Tatum Ceslock went 2x2 with a homer, a double, and four RBIs. Risum was 3x4 with three doubles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Junior 3rd baseman Leah Rear had two doubles and two runs scored. Freshman centerfielder Natalie Pierce scored three times as the Cardinals scored nine runs in the 2nd inning and four runs in the 3rd inning to account for all their scoring. Brodhead is undefeated at 3-0 and was scheduled to play at Mount Horeb on April 7.


Three Run 7th Inning Gives Cheesemakers 8-5 Win Over Evansville

The Monroe Cheesemakers broke open a tie game with a three-run 7th inning and defeated the Evansville Blue Devils 8-5 in nonconference softball on April 3. Senior catcher Brinley Roidt blasted a her second home run of the season and senior 1st baseman Sophie Golembiewski went 4x4 including three doubles to power the Cheesemakers. Roidt and Golembiewski combined to drive in all eight runs with four RBIs each. Junior Kaegan Paulson pitched all seven innings allowing five runs on 10 hits. Paulson struck out six and walked just one batter. Paulson and senior centerfielder Chesney Slotten each had a double for the Cheesemakers. Monroe (4-1) will host the Brodhead Cardinals on April 8 at Twining Park. 


O’s Out-Slug O-Ville 23-19

In an opening game of the Orangeville Tournament on April 4, the Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles out-slugged the Orangeville Broncos 23-19. The two teams combined for seven home runs, 39 hits, and 12 walks. The Orioles wasted no time in creating the football-like final score, getting 13 runs in the first inning, and scoring a combined eight runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Senior 3rd baseman Kylie Butler had a monster game for the Orioles, as she went 4x4, hitting two home runs with eight RBIs and four runs scored. Seniors Maddy Lange and Ava Wiegel also went deep for the Orioles. Abigail Hazzard belted two home runs for Orangeville and Rylie Scheuerell added a homer for the Broncos. The Orioles won despite committing seven errors which led to 10 unearned runs. Winning pitcher Mya McNett went all seven innings, giving up 19 runs on 20 hits. McNett also went 4x6 with two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs. 

The Orioles also split two games in the Orangeville Tournament on April 5. The Orioles blanked the East Dubuque Warriors 10-0 in five innings as senior starting pitcher Mya McNett shut down the Warriors on three hits. McNett also batted leadoff and delivered three hits in four at-bats, drove in two runs, and scored two runs. Senior catcher Ava Wiegel was 2x3 with two RBIs and scored a run. Junior 1st baseman Sam Kammes was 2x3 with two RBIs. 

In the second game, the Orioles suffered their first loss of the season, 13-2 in five innings to the St. Francis Spartans. St. Francis hit four home runs, including two by Alyssa Freeman of the Spartans. Junior 3rd baseman Kylie Butler had a double and an RBI for the Orioles, who managed just four hits. Argyle-Black Hawk is scheduled to host Potosi-Cassville in a Six Rivers Conference game April 8 at Argyle.


Juda-Albany Hangs On To Win Over Deerfield 4-3

Freshman centerfielder Ryleigh Brown, sophomore leftfielder Anna Bartels, and junior 1st baseman Rianna Sullivan each drove in a run to help the Juda-Albany Panthers hold off the Deerfield Demons, 4-3 in nonconference softball on April 3. Brown was 2x3 with a run scored and Bartels collected two hits in three at-bats and scored a run as the Panthers won their season opener. Starting pitcher junior Emerson Briggs tossed a complete game, giving up three earned runs on five hits and worked out of a jam in the 7th inning when the Demons scored two runs to pull to within one run at 4-3. Briggs walked four and struck out four. The Panthers pieced together eight hits to get a pair of runs in the first inning and two more runs in the fourth. 


Juda-Albany Rips Parkview 17-0

All it took was three innings for the Juda-Albany Panthers to handle the Parkview Vikings in a non-conference softball game on Fri. April 4, 17-0. “Jubany” put up 15 runs in the 3rd inning to end the game early. Senior shortstop Anna Ellinger got a hit and four RBIs while freshman centerfielder Ryleigh Brown had two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored for the Panthers. Junior leftfielder Emerson Briggs contributed with two hits, an RBI, and three runs scored. Sophomore starting pitcher Anna Bartels pitched two innings and gave up one hit. Brown pitched one inning and struck out the side in the third inning. With the win, Juda-Albany improved to 2-0 and was set to host Highland at Albany on April 7, and Belmont at Juda on April 8.
