JUDA — The Ponies rolled into town and used a big first set to propel themselves past host Juda. Both teams entered the match with identical 3-2 records in the Six Rivers East, but Monticello swept the Panthers 25-6, 28-26, 25-20.
“Monticello wasted no time in Game 1, coming out fast while (we) started very slow,” Juda head coach Scott Anderson said. “(We) started Game 2 up 10-1, but Monticello did not quit and came all the way back.”
Mackie Errthum led Monticello with 10 kills and Hannah Zanow had 8 kills and 14 digs. Lindsey Pence dished out 25 assists for the Ponies, which also got 12 digs and six aces from Alyssen Noriega.
“Mackie Errthum kept finding timely points to end Juda’s hopes,” Anderson said.
Triniti Elmer led Juda with three aces, 26 digs and five kills. Hannah Powers had six kills and five blocks for Juda, which also got nine assists from Montana Steinmann and seven assists from Karlee Kesler.
“Both sides dug the ball really well,” Anderson said. “At midseason, we are bonding to our identity to dig and, forgetting Game 1, we really did that tonight. Monticello simply was able to get more kills. I’m really proud of how we didn’t fold after Game 1.”
Pecatonica 3, Albany 0
ALBANY — Libby Beck led the Comets in five of six statistical categories, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Vikings attack Sept. 18. Pecatonica won 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.
Beck had eight kills, five blocks, four aces and six digs to lead Albany. Jada Flannery had four aces and Payton Zurfluh (6) and Kaitlyn Dunphy (5) led the team in assists.
Four Pecatonica players tied for the team lead in kills with five — Lexi Peterson, Val Carr, Samantha Holmstrom and Tessa Green. Green added nine digs and 13 assists for the Vikings, which got three aces each from Eaton, Carr and Holmstrom. Eaton also had eight assists and Carr added nine digs.
“All three games (we) dug a hole and were down, but we managed to put together runs to take the lead,” Pecatonica head coach Brad Tisch said.
Albany traveled to Black Hawk Thursday while Pecatonica hosted Monticello.
Jefferson 3, Brodhead 0
JEFFERSON — The Cardinals were swept on the road Sept. 18 by Jefferson, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19.
Abbey Johnson had three aces, 15 assists, 12 digs and seven blocks to lead Brodhead, which also got three aces, four kills and a block from Sabrina Siegel. Madisyn Kail added two aces and six assists, while Katie Goecks had five kills and three blocks.
As a team, Brodhead served 87.7 percent from the service line with eight aces and finished with 41 digs.
Brodhead travels to McFarland Tuesday to continue the conference slate.
Wisconsin Heights 3, New Glarus 0
NEW GLARUS — The Vanguards out-jousted the Glarner Knights 25-11, 25-8, 25-8 Sept. 18.
Lola Gillaspie had two blocks for New Glarus, which also received eight digs from Brooke Watrud.
The Glarner Knights (0-6 Capitol South) host Marshall Tuesday.
