MONROE — In the newest set of weekly prep rankings, Monticello has jumped up to No. 3 in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Associations Division 5 boys rankings.
The Ponies were fifth a week ago and now sit at 11-0 at the halfway mark of the season. The Associated Press poll, which came out Jan. 14, ranks Monticello sixth.
Darlington (11-0) is third in the Division 4 coaches poll, two spots below rival Cuba City. The two schools were scheduled to meet Jan. 16 in a major SWAL contest. Cuba City is the unanimous No. 1 in the AP poll, with Darlington third.
Monroe (9-1) is 11th in the AP poll.
Black Hawk is No. 1 in Division 5 in both polls in girls basketball.
In wrestling, Monroe has five athletes recognized in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online rankings.
Alex Witt is second at 182 pounds, while Bodie Minder is sixth at 285 and Kelsey Dominguez 12th at 220. Patrick Rielly (160) and Jack Dubach (106) are both honorable mentions.
Darlington-Black Hawk’s Leif Bredeson is the top-ranked wrestler at 285, while Cayden Milz is honorable mention at 170.
Joe Quaglia of Sugar River is 11th at 132 pounds, and Brodhead-Juda’s Brian McCullough is 12th at 152.
In Division 3, Pecatonica-Argyle’s Easton Schraepfer is up one spot to fourth at 160 pounds, while teammate Noah Krahenbuhl is fifth at 126.
