MONROE — The Cheesemakers picked up their second win of the season Sept. 24 against Reedsburg before getting blanked on the pitch at T.R. Holyoke Field one night later.

Monroe (2-9-1, 0-4 Badger South) toppled Reedsburg (1-10-1) 4-1 thanks to a second-half scoring outburst. The Cheesemakers fell behind just 6:13 into the game, but Aaron Ziolkowski tied it up in the 38th minute off a pass from Alex Torres. Just two minutes into the second half, Alex Barradas scored off a pass from Daniel Lapp to put Monroe ahead 2-1 and the rout was on.

Charlie Frehner scored in the 61st minute on an assist from Ziolkowski and Jahir Valentin made it 4-1 off an assist from Lapp in the 79th minute.

Devan Schulte had three saves on the night as Reedsburg was unable to get much going offensively against Monroe’s defense. The Cheesemakers put 12 shots on goal, meanwhile.

The next night, playing under the lights at T.R. Holyoke Field at the high school, the game went almost the exact opposite for the Cheesemakers.

Milton’s Lukas Mellen scored 1:38 into the game and just 44 seconds later Alfonso Lopez made it 2-0. The Red Hawks (4-3-2, 2-1-1) weren’t done, pushing the score to 3-0 at the 6:27 mark on a shot off the foot of Nick Robinson.

Monroe faced a score in the 19th minute as a hard shot to the goal blindsided defender Jason Carpenter in the stomach, temporarily knocking him out of the game. The ricochet off Carpenter’s midsection was rebounded on one touch by Lopez, who put the ball past Schulte for a fourth Milton goal.

In the 32nd minute off of a corner kick, Schulte dove for the ball without any traffic in the box but couldn’t get the handle. Robinson scooped up the rebound and put it away without any defensive pressure but wide eyes laying on the ground.

The Cheesemakers offense was anemic at best, getting just one corner kick opportunity in the first half and a header attempt in the box by freshman Lucas Flom. Monroe recorded just four shots on goal in the contest.
