Monroe, Sugar River host in regionals

MONROE — The boys soccer tournament seeds were released Sunday, Oct. 8 following seeding meetings, and local teams Monroe and Sugar River both received home games.

No. 16 Monroe hosts No. 17 Prairie du Chien-River Ridge-Seneca in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Honey Creek Park. Monroe (1-12-2, 0-6-1 RVC) and PDC (0-10-1, 0-7-0 SWC) share a handful common opponents, including River Valley, Dodgeville-Mineral Point, Wisconsin Heights-Barneveld and Platteville-Lancaster. The most notable outcome was against Wisconsin Heights-Barneveld, where Monroe tied 1-1 and PDC lost 4-0. Last year, PDC beat Monroe 2-1 in a WIAA regional quarterfinal.

If Monroe wins, they would travel to the No. 1-seeded Edgerton Crimson Tide. Edgerton entered the seeding meeting 6-0-1, leading the Rock Valley Conference with Big Foot-Williams Bay. In their meeting on Oct. 3, the Crimson Tide beat the Cheesemakers 7-1.

Sugar River, ranked No. 8 in Division 3, received a first-round bye and the No. 3 seed. As such, the Raiders (13-2-1, 5-0-0 Capitol) the host No. 14 seed Jefferson Eagles (3-14-1, 0-6-1 RVC) in a regional semifinal on Thursday, Oct. 19. The two teams share common opponents in Dodgeville-Mineral Point, Evansville, Cambridge-Deerfield, Fort Atkinson and Lakeside Lutheran. Sugar River defeated each opponent, while Jefferson lost to each opponent.

If Sugar River wins, they would host the winner of No. 11 Cambridge-Deerfield and No. 6 La Crosse Logan. The Raiders defeated Cambridge-Deerfield 5-1 on Aug. 31 and La Crosse Logan in last year’s regional final 2-0.
