MILTON — The Cheesemakers improved to 11-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Badger South after a 5-2 win over Milton Jan. 3.
“We are off to our best start in program history,” Monroe co-op coach Barry Einbeck said.
Hayden Roth opened the scoring in the first period, scoring just under five minutes into the first period. Roman Bauer and Blaze Janecke were credited with assists on the goal.
Both teams would trade goals the rest of the period, with Monroe’s Payton Stauffacher also lighting the lamp. Roth and Janecke assisted.
The two teams skated to a scoreless second, but in the third period the Cheesemakers put three shots behind Red Hawks netminder Luke Grote. Stauffacher, Ryan Molitor and Cade Janecke all scored in the third for Monroe. Luke Kuberski, Josh Haight, Jared Dillon and Cade Janecke all recorded assists in the third.
The Cheesemakers outshot Milton 31-21. Heath Bear had 19 saves for Monroe.
Roth’s 19 goals on the season are tied for third in the state. Cade Janecke’s 18 assists are tied for sixth. Cade Janecke’s 32 points are tied for seventh in the state. Bear’s 11 wins are second in the state.
