EDGERTON — The Monroe girls track and field team won the Tider Invitational May 28, scoring 142.5 team points, besting Mount Horeb (121.5), which finished second in the 8-team meet.
Platteville (106.33) was third, Jefferson (103.82) fourth, followed by Lodi (89), Whitewater (71.33), Edgerton (35.5) and Evansville (20).
The Monroe boys team scored 114.5 points, which was second to team champion Jefferson (137). Lodi (106.5) was third, narrowly finishing ahead of Platteville (105.5). Mount Horeb (92) was fifth, followed by Evansville (71), Whitewater (33) and Edgerton (28.5).
“A really impressive overall team performance as all seven teams are from our sectional — including some of the top programs,” said Eric Jubeck, Monroe’s girls coach. “This was a prep meet for conference and while the teams in our conference typically have performances even better than last night — we continue to prove we belong as part of the conversation as a contender for conference. We still have some work to do and need to clean up our event warm-up routine and baton work, but couldn’t be more proud of the outcome.”
On the girls side, Monroe freshman Aleigh Zettle won the 100-meter dash (13.43 seconds) by 4/100ths of a second. She finished second in the 200-meter dash (27.20) by the same 4/100ths margin. Zettle also won the pole vault (8-feet, 9-inches) by nine inches.
“This is a meet where veterans generally shine because of the competition and familiarity — but Aleigh is starting to figure out how good she can be,” Jubeck said.
Bre Lambert (1:01.46) placed first in the 400.
Jadyn Elgin was second in the 3,200 (12:19.21) by just 4/100ths.
“Jadyn’s 12:19 is a heck of a time and puts herself on the honor roll,” Jubeck said, referencing the weekly Wisconsintrackonline.com list of top performers in the state. “With making it to state in cross country, it really threw off (Jadyn’s) timeline for track, but this was her coming out party.”
In the 100-meter hurdles, Platteville’s Ketura Goomey took first (17.71), just ahead of Monroe’s Brenna Aebly (17.76), Taylor Jacobson (17.85) and Lodi’s Taylor Ripp (17.86). Jacobson finished third in the triple jump (31-00.5), while Aebly was fourth in the long jump (14-09).
Monroe’s quartet of Zettle, Lambert, Lauren Coppes and Sierra McGuire were second (4:24.28) in the 1,600-relay. Alyssa Roelli was third in the 1,600 (5:48.17). Riley Hartwig finished third in the discus (96-07) and fourth in the shot put (35-00.5).
“Our four hurdlers (Aebly, Jacobson, Sierra McGuire and Lauren Coppes) scored 28 points. We know we have the depth in these events, and now it’s time to see who will step up to be the sectional qualifiers and conference point scorers in the 100 and 300 hurdles,” Jubeck said. He singled out Lambert for her efforts in the meet, saying that she has changed the culture of the 1,600-meter relay team, and has consistently improved her 400 time throughout the season.
On the boys side, Lucas Sathoff was second in the 400 (52.48) and third in the 800 (2:08.69). Jason Carpenter was second in the 110-hurdles (16.20) and 300-hurdles (43.51). Caleb Bunker finished second in the shot put (44-09.75), with younger brother Isaac fourth (39-11.75).

Heath Huschitt was fourth in the 1,600 (5:01.25). Wiegel was fourth in the high jump (5-06) and in the triple jump (35-10.75).
