Monroe girls finish sixth

MADISON — The Monroe girls track and field team finished in sixth place at the Badger South Conference championships June 8 at Edgewood High School.

Monroe had two second-place competitors, and three of each third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishes.

Freshman Aleigh Zettle was second in the 200 (26.45) behind Monona Grove’s Madeline Hogan (26.13). Zettle was also third in the pole vault (8-06), fourth in the 100 (13.14) and fifth in the 1,600-meter relay (4:21.28). 

Bre Lambert was second in the 400 (1:00.72), nearly a full second behind champion Madeline Hogan of Monona Grove. She joined Zettle, Lydia Butler and Sierra McGuire in the 1,600-meter relay.

Taylor Jacobson was a third-place finisher in the triple jump (33-01.75), fourth in the long jump (16-00.5), and fifth in the 100-hurdles (17.66). Riley Hartwig was third in the shot put (35-11).

Monroe’s 3,200-meter relay team of Jenna Brower, Anna Polnow, Ximena Miranda and Kaitlyn Elgin took fourth. Jadyn Elgin was fifth in the 3,200-meter run (12:56.30).

Edgewood won the girls team title with 118 points. Stoughton (111.50) was second, with Monona Grove (106) third, Milton (88.5) fourth, Oregon (79.5) fifth, Monroe (77) sixth, Fort Atkinson (64) seventh and Watertown (55.5) eighth.

Monroe will compete at the WIAA Division 2 Beloit Memorial Regional June 14 along with Brodhead-Juda. Those that advance to sectionals will compete June 17 at Whitewater with a shot at state on the line. The WIAA Division 2 state championship is slated for June 25 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse.
