MONROE — The Cheesemakers opened conference play with a 77-29 loss to Oregon on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Monroe trailed 42-17 after the first half, with Taylor Jacobson scoring nearly half of the Cheesmakers’ points. Sophie Golembiewski added on three points with a bucket and a free throw. Abbey Matley, Delaney Fortney and Allison Wunschel chipped in two points, each.
In the second half, Wunschel drained two 3-pointers, while Jacobson added six more points. Jacobson led Monroe with 14 points, followed by Wunschel with eight.
Oregon had four different players score in double figures. Delaney Nyenhuis led the Panthers with 20 points, followed by Klara Tracy with 15. McKenna Carroll and Sam Schmitt chipped in 11 points each.
ALBANY 48, HIGHLAND 34
HIGHLAND — The Comets improve to 6-0 with a nonconference road win on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Albany led 21-15 at half, as Gracie Freitag and Alana Durtschi each scored seven points. Freitag made three baskets with one free throw, while Durtschi had one 3-pointer with two baskets. Avary Briggs and McKenna Broughton chipped in two points each, while Myah Johnson drained a 3-pointer.
Abby Hollis, who was scoreless in the first, recorded eight points in the second half. She knocked down two shots from beyond the arc with an additional basket. Durtschi added 10 points to her total, with four of them at the charity stripe. Freitag’s highlight of the second half was completing a 3-point play at the free-throw line.
Durtschi led Albany with 17 points, followed by Freitag with 14. Hollis had two of the four Comet 3-pointers. The other two came from Johnson and Durtschi. As a squad, Albany went 8-for-12 from the free-throw line.
Highland had just one scorer in double figures — Harlee Fredericks with 10 points. Fredericks and Harper Drary combined for Highland’s four 3-pointers.
WARREN 72, JUDA 42
JUDA — Despite a 19-point performance from Briliey Swedlund, the Panthers fell to Warren on Thursday, Dec. 8.
Juda scored 20 points in the first half, with almost half of them coming from Ciarrah Davis. She sank four shots from the field and added one free throw. Rianna Sullivan added eight points, while Swedlund chipped in four. Alexxis Metz went to the free-throw line for bonus but was unable to convert.
On the other end, Warren received nine points from Averi Sabinson, including a 3-pointer. Adalynn Bohnsack added eight points, while Katie Schnedier recorded six. In total, the Warriors scored 37 first-half points.
In the second, three new players contributed to Warren’s offense. Meridyth Neff scored seven points, while Abby Harris went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. With a bucket and two free throws, Elaina Martin scored four points.
For Juda, Swedlund went off for 15 points. All but one were two-point buckets. Lavinia Rufer, who was scoreless in the first, scored four in the second Marta Escalero also scored in the second with her own basket.
Swedlund led the Panthers with 19 points, followed by Davis with 11. Meanwhile, Bohnsack totaled 20 for Warren. Lauren Williams also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Neither team shot well at the free-throw line, though. Juda was 4-for-10, while Warren was slightly better at 16-for-31.
