Monroe falls to Marshall

MARSHALL — The Cheesemakers lost a nonconference game Dec. 3 at two-time defending WIAA Division 3 state champion Marshall, 54-40.

Megan Benzschawel scored 14 points to lead the Cheesemakers, which trailed 28-21 at halftime. Benzschawel was 5 of 13 from the field with seven rebounds and three assists.

Grace Mathiason and Chloe Bunker each had seven points, while Grace Tostrud had six. Bunker and Tostrud each finished with eight rebounds. Monroe (1-2) was just 15 of 62 from the field (24.1%) and 3 of 19 from 3-point land (15.7%).

Anna Lutz, an NCAA DI prospect with over a handful of college offers, led Marshall (3-1) with 30 points.

The Cheesemakers open Badger South Conference play at Fort Atkinson Dec. 6, with a home game against Oregon Dec. 14.


Darlington 54, Richland Center 52

RICHLAND CENTER — The Redbirds overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to knock off the Hornets in a nonconference game Dec. 3.

Allison Thompson scored 14 points to lead Darlington, while teammate Lizzie Schwartz had 12, Brenna McDonald nine and Marissa Gould seven.

Richland Center (0-3) led 38-28 at halftime, but the Redbirds (1-2) held the Hornets to just 14 points in the second half to squeak out the win.


Belleville 81, Pecatonica 25

BLANCHARDVILLE — The visiting Wildcats owned the Vikings from the get go and cruised to a nonconference win Dec. 3.

Belleville (2-1) led 50-17 at halftime and outscored Pecatonica (1-3) 31-8 in the second half.

Erin Kittleson scored 20 to lead the Wildcats, while Ava Foley had 16 and Mickey Stampfli finished with nine.

Pecatonica was led in scoring by Lexi Peterson’s eight points and freshman Chloe Schraepfer’s seven.


Argyle 68, Benton 23

BENTON — The Orioles put their focus on defense, and it paid off in their nonconference win over the Zephyrs Dec. 3.

Benton was just 8 of 51 (15.6%) from the field, with a forgettable 2 of 16 (12.5%) effort from deep. At halftime, Argyle (2-1) led 33-9 before outscoring the Zephyrs 35-14 over the final 18 minutes.

Tori Lantz led Argyle with 19 points. Maggie Godfrey had 12 points for the Orioles, while Grace Ganshert and McKenzee Granberg each scored 10.

Kailey Fawcett led Benton (0-4) with nine points.


Monticello 49, Madison Country Day

MADISON — Mackie Errthum scored 22 points as the Ponies cruised to victory in a nonconference game Dec. 3.

Miah Brokopp finished with nine points for Monticello (3-1), while Alexa Siegenthaler had six.
