Monroe falls to Edgewood; BH keeps dominating
basketball stock

MADISON — The Cheesemakers suffered a tough 47-39 Badger South loss at Edgewood Feb. 4.

Monroe senior Grace Tostrud led all scorers with 20 points, while junior Megan Benzschawel had eight.

Edgewood post player Sarah Lazar scored 13 points and Ella Foti added nine.

The Cheesemakers scored just 11 points in the first half and went into the locker room down by six.

Up next for Monroe are games on back-to-back nights. First, the Cheesemakers will travel to Monona Grove Feb. 7. The following day, Monroe hosts East Troy at 4 p.m. The game is also the rescheduled “Kaelie the Incredible” night from January, where fundraising efforts will take place to raise money for the family of Kaelie Wunschel, a Monroe Parkside Elementary School student battling Neuroblastoma.


Black Hawk 88, Pecatonica 17

SOUTH WAYNE — Hannah Butler had 30 points and 10 steals for unbeaten Black Hawk, the state’s top-ranked team in Division 5. Natalie Leuzinger added 18 points and Bailey Butler had 17 for the Warriors in the Six Rivers East win Feb. 4.

Black Hawk led 57-10 at halftime. Ten Warriors scored in the contest, with all 13 suited players entering the game and playing significant minutes.


Black Hawk 87, Riverdale 29

MUSCODA — Hannah Butler had 26 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while sister Bailey finished with 17 points, seven steals and eight assists in a nonconference game Feb. 3. 

Black Hawk led 52-19 at halftime. Maddy Huschitt and Makayla Mau each scored nine points for the Warriors. Leuzinger had seven.


Fall River 57, New Glarus 38

NEW GLARUS — Jaylynn Benson had 16 points for the Glarner Knights, which fell in a Feb. 3 nonconference game. 

Samantha Leisemann had 13 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the Pirates. Alexis Rozinski had 17 points and nine rebounds for Fall River, while teammate Maddie Gregorio added 10 points.

New Glarus trailed 26-17 at halftime.


Darlington 60, Dodgeville 54

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds scored a nonconference win Feb. 3 thanks to 17 points from Allison Thompson.

Lizzie Schwartz added nine points, while Marissa Gould had eight and Taylor Wedig seven for Darlington, which trailed 33-29 at halftime.

Olivia Argall led Dodgeville with 25 points.


Barneveld 44, Monticello 32

BARNEVELD — The Ponies fell behind by nine at halftime and couldn’t recover.

The Eagles had 11 players score in the game, with only Jacey Spring reaching double figures with 13 points.

Miah Brokopp led Monticello with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting from beyond the arc.

In other area action, on Feb. 4 Albany defeated Juda 73-29.
