Monroe falls 8-0, receives home game in playoffs

TOMAH — The Monroe boys co-op hockey team lost to Tomah-Sparta 8-0 Feb. 2 in a makeup game.

The Cheesemakers trailed 2-0 after the first period and allowed three goals in both the second and third periods. Tomah-Sparta (16-3-2) is in its first year as a co-op after being separate programs for nearly a decade.

Monroe (7-12) was outshot 50-15, and Argyle sophomore Jayden Johnson finished with 42 saves.

Both teams had just two penalties in the game.

The WIAA released the playoff brackets on Feb. 3, with Monroe netting the No. 8 seed in its sectional. The Cheesemakers will host Greendale Feb. 12 with the winner traveling to take on No. 1 seed Waukesha North Feb. 14. Tomah-Sparta received a No. 3 seed in the Onalaska sectional.
