Monroe, East Troy tied atop Rock Valley

MONROE — With its 61-47 win over Jefferson on Dec. 17, Monroe improved to 2-0 in the Rock Valley-Valley division, keeping pace with East Troy.

The Cheesemakers never trailed in their league game Tuesday, shooting 50% from the field, including 58% from 2-point range.

Mekhi Brown and JJ Meyer scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, to lead the team. Brown also chipped in a team-high, eight rebounds. On the defensive end, Marcus Ott was a threat, recording seven deflections and seven steals.


EDGERTON 78, BRODHEAD 27

BRODHEAD — Without a player in double figures and a 16.7 shooting percentage, the Cardinals suffered a Rock Valley-Rock loss Tuesday, Dec. 17. Cullen Walker, who averaged 17.8 ppg, was held to just nine points. Brody Riese grabbed seven boards.

BLANCHARDVILLE — With a double-double from Charles Anderson and two other players scoring 20-plus points, the Vikings upended the Silver Eagles in a nonconference game Dec. 16.

Charles Anderson scored 15 points with 16 rebounds. Griffin Noll led the offense, scoring 27 points, followed by Martin Anderson with 22 points. Martin was also a defensive threat, recording seven deflections and eight steals.


BELLEVILLE 74, COLUMBUS 67  

BELLEVILLE —  The Wildcats handed the eight-ranked Cardinals their second loss of the season in a Capitol Conference crossover game Dec. 16. Four Belleville players finished in double figures, led by Brendan Pawloski with 17 points. He was just one rebound shy of a double-double. Jackson Scholey scored 15 points with nine assists. Bryce Babler chipped in 14 points, and Adam Cann followed with 12.


CUBA CITY 65, 

NEW GLARUS 61

CUBA CITY — The Knights gave up a five-point lead at halftime, falling to the Cubans in a nonconference game Dec. 16. Gavin Vaassen was a major threat, scoring 18 of his 30 points in the second half. 

Four Knights finished in double figures, led by Charlie Sarbacker with 14 points. Nolan Julseth chipped in 13 points, followed by Luke Burton with 11 and Clayton Streiff with 10. Despite making seven 3-pointers, New Glarus shot 50% from the free-throw line.

In other local boys basketball action, Argyle defeated Iowa-Grant 71-61. Black Hawk suffered a 69-23 loss to Southwestern, ranked No. 10 in Division 5, per the latest WisSports.net Coaches Poll.
