KENOSHA — The Cheesemakers dropped a nonconference game Jan. 4 at Kenosha, 6-3.
Monroe took the early lead on a first-period goal by Owen Hicks, assisted by Brody Koehn. The Thunder responded less than 30 seconds later, knotting it up with a goal of their own.
Kenosha then scored the first two goals of the second period, but Monroe got one back, as Brock Goode hit the back of the net off a pass from Benjamin Erdley. In the third period, Monroe evened the score with Koehn putting it past the net-minder off assists from Erdley and Carter Nemergut.
The home squad responded with three goals over the final 8:09 of regulation to take the win.
All nine goals in the game were scored with the teams playing 5-on-5. Kenosha was charged with four penalties, while Monroe players had three visits to the penalty box. The Thunder out-shot the Cheesemakers 38-21. Brock Brandli played all 51 minutes in net for Monroe.
