Monroe drops finale; Pec wins Six Rivers East
Darlington no-hit by MP; Cardinals 10-run Clinton

REEDSBURG — The Cheesemakers dropped the regular season finale May 20 game to the Beavers, 7-2.

Trevor Schmitt was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Monroe. Teammate George Brukwicki had a single and a double, and Charles Briggs drove in both runs — one in the first inning, and another in the third.

Henry Brukwicki took the loss on the mound, allowing seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and five walks with five strikeouts in four innings of work. Keegan Dahmen pitched the final two frames, scattering a hit and a walk while striking out three.

Kenny Disdier-Bruno struck out eight in six innings for Reedsburg. 

The two teams each scored a run in the first inning, but the Beavers plated four in the bottom of the second. Brukwicki had two outs with a runner on second, but a hit-by-pitch, a single, a double and three-consecutive walks brought home all four runs.

Monroe was able to scratch back with a run in the top of the third, but Reedsburg countered with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Neither team scored the rest of the way.


Pecatonica 9, Highland 1

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings capped yet another conference championship season with a crossover win over the Cardinals May 20.

“Our kids have put in a lot of hard work, time and commitment to have success as a baseball program,” said Jim Strommen, longtime Pecatonica coach. “Everyone contributed to the win today and throughout the season.”

Hunter Enloe was dominant on the mound, Strommen said. The senior southpaw stifled Highland hitters for seven innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with 15 strikeouts. The lone run against him was unearned. 

At the plate, Kegun Brunker and Elijah Knutson each had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for Pecatonica. Jameson Johnson doubled in drove in two more. Carson Kurschner walked three times. 

The Vikings walked 10 times and had nine hits (three doubles). 

“Our seniors have set the tone throughout the season. I couldn’t be prouder of Hunter Enloe, Kegun Brunker, Devon Doran and Bryce Johnsrud,” Strommen said. 


Pecatonica 5, New Glarus 2

NEW GLARUS — The Knights couldn’t keep up with Pecatonica’s methodical scoring in a May 19 nonconference game. 

Leyton Mihlbauer had three hits and drove in both runs for New Glarus. He also pitched 5.2 innings of relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks. Eli Zimmerman started on the mound for the Knights, tossing 62 pitches in just 1.1 innings of work. He allowed one hit while walking seven and striking out two. Mihlbauer picked up Zimmerman by pitching of a bases-loaded jam in the second inning.

For Pecatonica, Jameson Johnson tossed six innings as a starter, striking out three while giving up six hits, two walks and two earned runs. Tyler McKeon pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Hunter Enloe had two hits, including a triple, with a walk, a steal, an RBI and two runs scored. Coy Ruegsegger drove in two runs.


New Glarus 3, Belleville 2

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights fended off their rivals with a walk-off victory May 20 in a Capitol South game.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Belleville’s Carson Syse had a 1-1 count on Ethan Friedrich with the bases loaded. A passed ball allowed Easton Dreyfus to score from third to end the game. Dreyfus singled earlier in the inning.

Belleville led 1-0 after the first inning, but New Glarus scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third thanks to an error and a wild pitch. Belleville evened the score in the top of the sixth. 

Dreyfus was 2-for-4 in the game. Friedrich walked twice, as did Eli Zimmerman. Patrick Alt tossed 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned). Brett Warrell tossed 1.2 scoreless innings, though he allowed an inherited runner to score in the sixth.


Barneveld 11, Argyle 0

BARNEVELD — The Eagles held the Orioles to just two hits on May 19.

Max Godfrey and Will Helfvogt had Argyle’s two hits. Buddy Gerber started on the mound and allowed five runs in 2.2 innings. Ike Waage pitched 1.1 innings, and Helfvogt allowed five runs in the fifth.


Argyle 12, Benton-Shullsburg 2

BENTON — The Orioles split a crossover doubleheader against their Six Rivers West rival on May 20.

Max Godfrey struck out 12 in six innings, but took the loss in the first game thanks to an unearned second-inning run. Brady Penniston had two hits and Godfrey walked twice at the plate.

In the nightcap, Argyle scored seven runs in the second inning and five in the bottom of the fourth to secure the lopsided victory. 

Ike Waage pitched all five innings with six strikeouts. Alex Gilbertson and Penniston each doubled for the Orioles, with Penniston driving in two runs. Godfrey and Noah Moen each walked twice and scored twice, while Will Helfvogt had a walk, a hit and two runs scored. 


Brodhead-Juda 12, Clinton 2

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals used a 10-run fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie and score a mercy-rule win over the Cougars May 19. 

Evan Senobe and Brady Malkow each had two hits, while Cooper Woelky had a double and two walks. Mason Kammerer, Gabe Bockhop, Malkow and Woelky each had two RBIs. Malkow struck out 12 to earn the complete game win.


Mineral Point 13, Darlington 0

MINERAL POINT — Dominik McVay and the Pointers no-hit the Redbirds on May 20. McVay struck out four and allowed just one baserunner on a walk. He also mashed a home run while going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs. McVay is committed to UW-Whitewater to play football and baseball after high school. 

Mineral Point scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and four more in the second, taking advantage of three Darlington errors in the process.

Breylin Goebel started for Darlington, but didn’t record an out while allowing eight straight baserunners to reach — and eventually score. James Ackley tossed two innings of relief, allowing five runs (three earned). Braden Davis pitched a scoreless third and fourth inning.
