MILTON — The Cheesemakers held off a late rally to beat the Red Hawks 65-62 Jan. 7.
Monroe led 33-23 at halftime, but Milton never let the Cheesemakers feel comfortable in the second half.
Senior Grace Tostrud dominated the boards, pulling down 21 rebounds. She also scored 20 points and went 3 of 8 from beyond the arc. Megan Benzschawel led Monroe (4-6, 3-3 Badger South) with 23 points and added seven rebounds. Grace Mathiason chipped in eight points and eight boards of her own, and freshman Taylor Jacobson had 19 rebounds and four assists.
The Cheesemakers were just 3 of 13 from 3-point range (23.0%), but were a solid 19 of 44 (43.1%) from inside the arc and 18 of 22 (81.8%) from the charity stripe. Monroe dominated the glass all night, corralling 52 team rebounds.
Milton (3-8, 2-4) had four players in double figures: Grace Quade (14), Alex Rodenberg (12), Julia Jaecks (10) and Abbie Campion (10).
Black Hawk 90, Albany 41
SOUTH WAYNE — The top-ranked Warriors handed the Comets their first conference loss of the season Jan. 7. At halftime, Black Hawk held a 60-21 advantage.
Hannah Butler led the Warriors with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Natalie Leuzinger ended with 17 points, six boards, five assists and four steals. Bailey Butler had 14 points, eight steals, eight assists and four rebounds for Black Hawk, which also got 11 points and four steals from Maddy Huschitt.
The Warriors (9-0, 4-0 Six Rivers East), finished 12 of 31 (38.7%) from beyond the arc and 34 of 60 (56.6%) from the field — including a blistering 22 of 29 (75.8%) mark from inside the arc. The Warriors combined to dish out 24 assists and collect 22 steals to just eight turnovers.
Argyle 76, Barneveld 54
BARNEVELD — The Orioles dominated the host Eagles Jan. 7, scoring a big Six Rivers East win.
Tori Lantz led the way with 20 points for Argyle (8-5, 3-1). Grace Ganshert added 18, while McKenzee Granberg had 15 and Maggie Godfrey finished with 14 for the Orioles.
Monticello 62, Juda 32
JUDA — Miah Brokopp scored 21 points to lead the Ponies to their first league win of the season Jan. 7.
Monticello (5-5, 1-3 Six Rivers East) exploded out of the locker room and opened the first half in control. By halftime, the Ponies led by 20.
Harley Disch finished the game with 10 points for Monticello, while Alexa Siegenthaler and Mackie Errthum each had nine.
Mineral Point 68, New Glarus 60
MINERAL POINT — The Glarner Knights couldn’t quite finish off a rally against the Pointers in a nonconference game Jan. 6.
New Glarus found itself behind 28-18 at halftime before finding an offensive rhythm and dropping 42 in the second half.
Jaylynn Benson led the Knights with 25 points, while Ellie Eichelkraut and Lily Himmelmann each scored 12. Mineral Point had four players in double figures: Nicole Johnson (15), Blair Watters (14), Macy Aschliman (12) and Ella Chambers (11).
Pecatonica 62, Johnson Creek 35
JOHNSON CREEK — The Vikings scored a nonconference win Jan. 6.
Pecatonica led 28-19 at halftime, then put away the Bluejays in the second half, outscoring the home team by 18 points over the final 18 minutes.
Johnson Creek had just three players score in the game: Hannah Constable (17), Lexi Swanson (14) and Hannah Budig (4).
Albany 56, Williams Bay 28
WILLIAMS BAY — Brianna Dahl had 17 points as the Comets picked up a nonconference win Jan. 6.
Payton Wachholz added 10 points for Albany, which also received eight from Gracie Freitag.
The Comets led 24-12 at halftime and finished 15 of 32 from the free throw line.
