The Monroe Cheesemakers just missed in getting a win over Division 1 Verona in nonconference tennis on May 10. The loss dropped the Cheesemakers record to 10-6 overall.

No. 3 — Nick Davidson, Verona defeated Allen Gerrits, Monroe, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.
No. 4 — Sajin Sivakumar, Verona defeated Simon Carus, Monroe, 6-1, 6-1.
Doubles
No. 1 — Carsen Bartholf and Hamilton Stites, Monroe defeated Emil Apodaca and Oliver Krieger, Verona, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 2 — Caleb Figi and Travis Saunders, Monroe defeated Liam Bruni and Raj Sharma, Verona, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
No. 3 — Michael Haslam and Lucas Prout, Verona defeated Graysan Bartholf and Eli Salzwedel, Monroe, 6-3, 6-4.
Cheesemaker coach Matt Bordner said, “Matthew (Setterstrom) played a great battle against their #1, but came up short in a first set tiebreaker that I think opened up the match a bit for Verona.”
The Cheesemakers opened up the Sun Prairie Invite with a 4-3 win over Nicolet. Nicolet was shorthanded, so it wasn’t their full strength lineup, but Coach Bordner said it was still great to pick up a close win as a team and to go 2-0 in super-tiebreakers.

No. 4 — Eli Salzwedel, Monroe defeated Zev Vielmetti, Nicolet, 7-6 (3), 6-2, 10-7.

No. 1 — Matthew Setterstrom and Carsen Bartholf, Monroe defeated Joey Arnstein and Noah Hendricks, Nicolet, 6-4, 6-3.
No. 2 — Travis Saunders and Caleb Figi, Monroe defeated Jonah Odesky and Owen Rozansky, Nicolet, 6-0, 6-0.
No. 3 — Graysan Bartholf and Cash McCabe, Monroe defeated Sammy Scheferman and Cole Bigelow, Nicolet, 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The 3rd round of the Sun Prairie Invite had the Cheesemakers up against Whitefish Bay (#7 in the state for D1). Coach Bordner said, “we knew this was going to be a tough round, but I was honestly really happy with the results. We had quite a few guys that battled really well and played competitive points with one of the best teams in the state.

No. 3 — Kyle Sifuentes, Whitefish Bay defeated Travis Saunders, Monroe, 6-3, 6-2.
No. 4 — Drew Schneider, Whitefish Bay defeated Graysan Bartholf, Monroe, 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles
No. 1 — Tyler Emory and Luke Johnson, Whitefish Bay defeated Matthew Setterstrom and Carsen Bartholf, Monroe, 6-4, 6-1.
No. 2 — Hugo Boyden and Will Savage, Whitefish Bay defeated Caleb Figi and Allen Gerrits, Monroe, 6-1, 6-2.
No. 3 — Luke Clements and Henry Schutz, Whitefish Bay defeated Cash McCabe and Eli Salzwedel, Monroe, 6-4, 6-4.
The final round of the invitational was against the host school, Sun Prairie United (which is Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West Co-Op for tennis). This match was intense, especially in the singles lineup. All four matches were slugfests, with three going to super-tiebreakers and Matthew Setterstrom’s match going to two really competitive sets. Coach Bordner commented that “we ended up sweeping doubles and picking up a huge win from Allen Gerrits at #3, as he fought off several match points to come back and win the deciding match in the round.”

No. 4 — Caden Hansen, Sun Prairie United Boys def. Cash McCabe, Monroe, 4-6, 6-1, 12-10.
Doubles
No. 1 — Hamilton Stites and Carsen Bartholf, Monroe defeated Cameron Mckenna and Mouneeth Venigalla, Sun Prairie United Boys, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 2 — Caleb Figi and Travis Saunders, Monroe defeated Tarin Phippen, and Donovan Seidl, Sun Prairie United Boys, 6-4, 6-4.
No. 3 — Eli Salzwedel and Graysan Bartholf, Monroe defeated Tyler Helmenstine and Connor Anderegg, Sun Prairie United Boys, 6-1, 6-4.
With the win, the Cheesemakers are now 11-7 overall, 4-0 in conference play, and go back to Rock Valley conference action this week with Edgerton (May 13) and Jefferson (May 15) on the schedule.
