DEFOREST — The Monroe—New Glarus swim team kicked off their season with their first meet at DeForest High School, which featured a mix of Division 1 and Division 2 teams, including McFarland and Sauk Prairie, both of which are in the Badger Conference with Monroe-New Glarus. McFarland, with its large roster and strong depth, is expected to be a very competitive team this year.
The meet was divided into three heats: the Blue Division (fastest entries), the Red Division (second-fastest), and the White Division (third-fastest). Monroe-New Glarus placed third in the Blue Division, fifth in the Red Division, and fifth in the White Division. All 14 swimmers that participated in the meet scored points for MNG in their division.
“A few of our swimmers were already matching or even beating their times from the end of last September — an exciting sign of progress considering we’ve only had two weeks of practice,” MNG coach Rachel Root said.
The Cheese Knights next travel to McFarland to compete in the on Thursday, Aug. 28.
