MIDDLETON — The Lady Cheesemakers went 1-1 over the holiday in a pair of nonconference games. Monroe lost to Chippewa Falls 71-65 Dec. 27 at the Middleton Holiday Shootout, then knocked off Muskego 68-53 Dec. 28.

Perhaps the biggest accomplishments over the two games were by the team’s two celebrated seniors. All-state guard Sydney Hilliard became the school’s all-time leading scorer and Emily Benzschawel became the fifth girl in program history to surpass 1,000 points in the same game. Hilliard, a Wisconsin commit, surpassed 1960 graduate Dave Grams’ all-time record of 1,616 points in the against Chippewa Falls. She now sits at 1,643 and counting.

Emily Benzschawel reached the 1,000-point milestone in the loss to Chippewa Falls. Benzschawel joined Ashley Hermanson (1,039), Jamie Armstrong (1,059), Ellie Radke (1,341) and Hilliard as the only 1,000-point scorers in the history of the Monroe girls program.

In the loss to Chippewa Falls, the Cheesemakers (8-4) led 32-27 at halftime but were outscored 44-33 in the second half.

Chippewa Falls (7-3) was led by juniors Caelan Givens (30) and Aaliyah McMillan (22).

In the win over Muskego (6-4), the Cheesemakers led 32-30 at halftime, but used a strong second half to seal the win.
