MHS dominates Boscobel Night Run
Cheesemakers boys, girls take 1st at Boscobel Night Run

BOSCOBEL — The fourth-ranked Monroe Cheesemakers girls cross country team took first place out of 23 teams with at the Greg Bell Memorial Night meet at Boscobel on Thursday, Sept. 18. 

The Cheesemakers captured first place with 62 points and were led by Vickie Wolf, who finished seventh with a time of 19:25.2. Braylin Cleary was ninth with a time of 19:29.6, with Aniyah Jackson-Bey right behind her (10th, 19:30.6). Mary McKenzie (16th, 20:00.2) Elizabeth Veeder (20th, 20:16.9), Layla Ritschard (22nd, 20:20.9), and Kaylen Cassidy (23rd, 20:21.3) all contributed to the Cheesemakers’ first-place finish.

Darlington finished in second place with 76 points. Adalee Berget placed second over with a time of 18:28.3. Freshman Alaina McGowan (19:08.5) of the Redbirds finished fourth.

The 16th-ranked Monroe boys cross country team were first place finishers with 70 points. The “Hounds” dominated with Tre Dammen taking first place in 15:44.4. Weston Huntsman (8th, 16:54.2), Ace Rossing (16th, 17:24.3), Elijah Cook (22nd, 17:39.1), Luca Veeder (23rd, 17:39.8), Eli Phillips (29th, 17:47.9, and Landon Smith (31st, 17:49.0) all ran for Monroe. 

The Darlington Redbirds placed 14th at the meet with 348 points. Junior Marcus Kendall (20th, 17:34.0) was the top runner for Darlington.


NGM 4th, 5th at Belleville Invitational

BELLEVILLE — The New Glarus-Monticello and Belleville girls and boys cross country teams competed in the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday Sept. 20 with New Glarus-Monticello finishing fourth in the girls race and fifth in the boys race. Belleville took fifth in the girls race and sixth in the boys race. 

The girls race was won by St. Ambrose Academy with 56 points. New Glarus-Monticello finished with 65 points and were led by Molly Olson, who finished third overall with a time of 21:52.90. Mya Clark (13th, 23:58.10), Mabel Jordan (15th, 24:03.40), Mirielle Smith (16th, 24:14.40), Lucy Sidwell (17th, 24:15.70), Hadley Ness (22nd, 25:36.90) and Taliyah Pitman-Shell (23rd, 25:44.00) also ran for NGM. 

The Belleville Wildcats were fifth with 135 points. Olivia Fox (8th, 23:16.50) was the top runner for Belleville. Ellie Gehin (24th, 25:49.50), Charlotte Weber (32nd, 27:00.60), Layna Westphal (35th, 27:49.30), Cora Funseth (37th, 28:45.00), Evie Vesperman (39th, 29:00.80) and Nicole Schultz (42nd, 29:56.80) all ran for Belleville.

The boys race was also won by St. Ambrose Academy (39 points). New Glarus-Monticello (151) was fifth. Dylan Gardner led the way with an eighth place finish in 18:45.60. Benjamin Biank (16th, 19:37.21), Jack Umhoefer (32nd, 21:18.50), Joren Salas (37th, 22:00.40), and Ethan Johnson (46th, 23:56.10) all ran for NGM.

Belleville (162) was sixth as a team. Carson Biermeier (10th, 19:01.60), Henry Koch (28th, 20:45.40), Jackson Scholey (30th, 21:10.20), Nolan Hisel (39th, 22:15.70), Adrian Scott (41st, 22:51.10), Matt Allen (44th, 23:24.00) and Cameron Pawloski (52nd, 25:38.50) also ran for Belleville.


Brodhead-Juda Girls 2nd, Boys 6th at Edgerton Cross Country Invitational

ALBION — The Brodhead-Juda Cardinals girls cross country team took second place at the Edgerton Invitational held at Silverwood County Park on Thursday, Sept. 18. The Brodhead-Juda boys finished sixth.

In the girls race, the Cardinals placed three runners in the top ten and finished with 52 points. Evansville took first place with 39 points. Olivia Brooks of Brodhead-Juda finished second overall with a time of 22:06.30. Rachel Hatter (23:16.7) was seventh, Ryleigh Brown (23:27.71) eighth, Quinn Burchard (24:54.90) 17th and Isabelle Yodhida (25:47.0) took 22nd.

The Cardinals boys team had two runners in the top ten and finished in sixth place with 111 points. Mavrik Plummer (18:51.40) led the Cardinals by taking seventh place. Jorge Villalva (19:15.00) was 10th. Also scoring for the Cardinals were Treyton Leutenegger (23rd, 20:36.21), Ashton Henze (33rd, 21:35.90), and Skyler Viti (42nd, 22:20.90). 

Next for the Cardinals is the Big Foot Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 25 at Walworth.
