MONROE — The Monroe boys co-op moved to 3-4 overall with a 3-1 nonconference win over Viroqua Dec. 15 at SLICE.

After two scoreless periods, Kaiden Klitzke scored 3:41 into the third to put Monroe ahead of the Blackhawks 1-0. Ryan Molitor and Ty O’Connor had assists for the Cheesemakers.

Viroqua didn’t waste much time responding, getting a shorthanded goal from Austin Nundahl less than two minutes later to even things at 1.

O’Connor made it 2-1 Monroe with 6:32 to play off a pass from Molitor, and a minute later Payton Stauffacher lit the lamp off a pass from Jared Cline.

“The kids played well tonight,” Monroe coach Barry Einbeck said. “It was a good team win.”

Heath Bear made 33 saves in net for Monroe, which was outshot 43-36 in the contest. Monroe also had eight penalty minutes to Viroqua’s four.

Bear had 14 saves against 19 shots in 27 minutes. Jayden Johnson played the final 24 minutes and had 35 saves. The Spartans outshot the Cheesemakers 54-12.
