Meyer sets BH mark

SOUTH WAYNE — Conner Meyer entered 2019 just 29 points away from his father’s record of 1,413 career points at Black Hawk. In his first game of the new year, Meyer scored 29 to become the school’s all-time leader with 1,414 in a 79-41 trouncing of Juda Jan. 3.

Meyer was 14 of 19 from the field and hit 2 of 3 attempts from beyond the arc. He also grabbed nine rebounds, dished out four assists, recorded two blocks and snagged six steals. Colby Argall hit four 3s and finished with 20 points, six boards and seven assists, while Kyle Lovelace had nine points and Rece Shelton finished with nine boards.

Dominic Taylor led Juda with 15 points and eight rebounds. Gavin Kammerer scored 13 and Dogukan Yetgin had seven points and seven rebounds. The Panthers were 7 of 28 from beyond the arc and 10 of 20 from 2-point land. 

Black Hawk led 41-23 at halftime and held Juda without a single free throw attempt in the game.


Shullsburg 68, Black Hawk 64

SHULLSBURG — The Miners tipped the Warriors in a Jan. 5 nonconference tilt.

Argall scored 22 to lead Black Hawk, which received 16 points from Meyer and 12 from Lovelace. Black Hawk was 5 of 13 from deep and 13 of 20 from the charity stripe, where Argall finished 8 of 11.

Rece Shelton and Argall each had eight boards for Black Hawk, which led 30-19 at halftime.


Barneveld 77, Albany 57

ALBANY — Malcom Reed returned for Barneveld and carried the Eagles to a win over the host Comets Jan. 3.

Reed scored 24 points — 12 in each half — and Barneveld scraped by despite a forgettable performance from the free throw line. The Eagles, which led 34-27 at halftime, finished the night just 4 of 17 from the charity stripe, but managed to hit seven 3s and 26 2s.

Albany hit 11 3s, but could only put down seven 2s and finished 10 of 21 from the line.

Josh Dahl scored 17 to lead the Comets, while Jamison Stauffacher had 14, Corbin Kelley 13 and Clay Hulbert nine. Dahl hit five 3s, while Hulbert and Kelley each had three. Trey Gordon had 16 for Barneveld, which saw 11 different players score in the game.


Argyle 59, Madison Abundant Life-St. Ambrose 42

ARGYLE — The Orioles used a 36-15 first half run to put away Abundant Life in a nonconference game Jan. 3.

Gavin Johnson scored 22 points to lead Argyle, which also got eight points from Clay Ritschard. Ten Orioles scored in the contest.

Argyle 70, Madison Country Day 54

ARGYLE — Gavin Johnson exploded for 29 points to lead the Orioles to a nonconference victory Jan. 5.

Corbyn Carius had 12 points, Mike Godfrey scored 10 and Connor Carius added nine for Argyle, which led just 32-29 at halftime.

Eight Orioles scored in the contest.


Pecatonica 58, Monticello 42

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Ponies kept the Jan. 3 conference game close in the first half, keeping the score tied at 26 entering halftime, but the Vikings pulled away in the second half, outscoring Monticello 32-16 over the final 18 minutes.

Carter Ruegsegger scored 18 points on six 3-pointers — including four in the second half — to lead Pecatonica. Colton Schraepfer added 18 for the Vikings, which also got 13 from Jaden Hendrickson and seven from Zack Eaton.

Devin Holtz led Monticello with 12 points, while Jeffrey Ace had 10 and Peter Gustafson and Simon Blohowiak each had seven.


Monticello 58, Belmont 41

MONTICELLO — The Ponies scored a nonconference victory over the Braves Jan. 5 thanks to superb post play.

Gustafson scored 20 points and Rece Rufer added 18 for Monticello, which led 30-20 at halftime. Ace scored eight for Monticello, which hit four 3s in the game but went just 10 of 20 from the free throw line. 


Brodhead 71, Whitewater 61

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals picked up a big Rock Valley victory Jan. 3.

Brodhead allowed four Whitewater players to reach double-figures but held the Whippets to just 23 points in the first half.


New Glarus 77, Cambridge 48

NEW GLARUS — Four Knights reached double figures in a trouncing of the Blue Jays Jan. 4.

Jaden Kreklow and Zach Feller each scored 18 to lead New Glarus, which also received 13 points from Trevor Gassman and 10 from Mason Martinson. Nine different Knights scored in the contest.

New Glarus led 42-28 at the end of the first half and outscored Cambridge 35-20 in the second half. 


Darlington 70, Boscobel 49

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds scored a SWAL victory Jan. 4 over the visiting Bulldogs thanks to a 22-point effort from Stryker Fitzsimons.

Trae Schilling added 12 points for Darlington, while seven other teammates contributed in scoring, including Carter Lancaster (10), Bryce Stone (8), Cayden Rankin (7) and Carson Evenstad (6).
