McIntyre, Boegli lead Brodhead-Juda in SWC

BRODHEAD — The Southwest Conference (SWC) released its all-conference teams, and eight Brodhead-Juda players made the list. Marcus McIntyre and Gunner Boegli were two-way first-team all-conference players.

Offensively, McIntyre was the Cardinals’ leading rusher. He tallied 584 yards on 105 carries for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. He scored four rushing touchdowns without fumbling the ball. Defensively, he led Brodhead-Juda with 89 tackles, five of which were for loss. McIntyre forced two fumbles, caught three interceptions and ran one back for a touchdown. This was McIntyre’s second straight year earning first-team defense honors.

Boegli led all Brodhead-Juda receivers with 38 receptions for 763 yards, averaging out to 20.1 yards per reception. In total, he caught nine touchdown passes. He also had 14 carries for 173 yards rushing. Boegli has earned first-team offense honors for two straight years. Defensively, he tallied 39 tackles, one of which was for a loss. Boegli also snagged three interceptions. 

Lineman Owen Hillstrom was first-team offense and second-team defense. His efforts on the offensive line led to 1,997 total rushing yards and 25 touchdowns on the ground. Defensively, he was second on the team in tackles (54) but led in tackles for loss (8). Hillstrom also recovered one fumble.

Despite missing four games due to injury, 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Blake Matthys made first-team defense. He was third on the team in total tackles (44) and second in tackles for loss (5). Matthys also recovered one fumble.

Isaac Saunders earned second-team offense honors. The senior was second on the team in rushing with 92 carries and 459 yards for an average of 5 yards per carry. He led all rushers with eight touchdowns. 

Emmitt Allen was another key factor on the offensive line, garnering second-team offense recognition.

David Masloske joined Hillstrom on the second-team defense. Masloske tallied 39 tackles with three of them for a loss. He also caught one interception.

Quarterback Gabe Bockhop received honorable mention recognition. He finished the season 73-for-126 passing with 1,212 yards. He threw 12 touchdown passes with five interceptions. 

Brodhead-Juda finished its season 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the SWC. The Cardinals were one of four teams from the conference to earn a playoff berth, falling to No. 2-ranked Columbus 49-0 in Level 1.
