MONROE — The Capitol Conference recently released its boys basketball all-conference selections, and league co-champions New Glarus and Belleville were well represented.
Glarner Knight Max Marty was the lone first-team all-conference selection. Teammates Brett Warrell and Jake Roth were named to the second team, while Cade Thayer earned honorable mention.
New Glarus finished 8-2 in the Capitol South and 16-9 overall. The Knights fell to River Valley 62-59 in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal.
Jack Erickson was the lone 1st AC selection for the Wildcats. Jackson Scholey was a 2nd AC player, and Carter Scholey garnered honorable mention.
Belleville finished 8-2 in the Capitol South, sharing the league title with New Glarus. Overall, the team posted a 13-13 record, falling in a WIAA Division 4 regional final to Darlington, 65-54.
Cambridge’s Matt Buckman was named the Capitol South Player of the Year. He averaged 25.7 ppg, shot 83% from the line (99-for-120), and went 39% from beyond the arc (59-for-151). In just his junior campaign, Buckman scored his 1,000th career point and will have 1,491 points entering his senior season.
Cambridge was 5-5 in league play and fell to fellow Capitol South opponent Marshall 75-69 in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal game.
