M-B’s Gustafson headed to state

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — Monticello-Belleville senior Peter Gustafson punched his ticket to the WIAA Division 2 boys state golf meet by firing an 11-over par 83 at Prairie du Chien Country Club June 8.

Gustafson score was tied for seventh overall. Edgewood freshman was the medalist, shooting a 4-over par 76. 

Edgewood won the sectional as a team, placing four golfers in the top 5 with a team score of 314. Edgerton was second (335), followed by Lodi (347) and Lake Country Lutheran (351). Monticello-Belleville was seventh (377) and New Glarus ninth (396) in the 12-team event.

Peyton Smith and Jaxson Pier of Monticello-Belleville finished with 97s. Logan Niesen carded a 100, and Grant Grossen shot a 110.

Ben Lukszys shot a 96 to lead New Glarus. Jack Douma had a 98, Zak Arnett a 99 and Ty Ready a 103.

Brodhead’s Onni Oliver shot a 97 as an individual qualifier, tying for 47th. in the 71-person field.

The WIAA Division 2 state championship will be held at Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells June 14-15.


D3 Mineral Point Sectional

Argyle-Pecatonica’s David Tisch carded an 11-over par 81 at Dodge-Point Country Club June 9 and teammate Noah Krahenbuhl shot an 85. Tisch tied for sixth place, while Krahenbuhl was tied for 13th. 

Tisch was three strokes behind the final state-qualifying place, which was occupied by Aquinas junior Sam Dobbins.
