Knights reign in the Capitol

MARSHALL — With an 83-79 win over Marshall on Monday, Feb. 19 — combined with Belleville’s loss to Marshall on Friday — New Glarus clinched at least a share of the Capitol South Conference title. The Knights made an 8-point swing, as they trailed the Cardinals 42-38 at halftime.

New Glarus can earn the title outright with a win over Waterloo on Thursday, Feb. 22. The results from that game will be in the Wednesday, Feb. 28 edition of the Monroe Times.

BRODHEAD 70, BIG FOOT 56

WALWORTH — With three players in double figures, the Cardinals trounced the Chiefs in a Rock Valley Conference game on Monday, Feb. 19. 

Cullen Walker led all scorers with 20 points, including a pair of threes. Gunner Boegli recorded a season-high 14 points, sinking three 3-pointers. Bockhop was the third Cardinal in double figures with 10 points and two 3s. Nathan Engen led on the glass with 11 rebounds. Walker and Brody Riese chipped in seven boards.

ALBANY 59, WILLIAMS BAY 36

ALBANY — The Comets bested the Bulldogs in all but one statistical category in a nonconference victory on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The largest discrepancy came beyond the arc, where Albany made 10 threes compared to Williams Bay’s five.

Ty Durtschi led all scorers with 24 points, going 6-for-16 from 3-point range.  Three other players tallied eight points — Brayden Bakken, Tyler Patchen and Drew Sertle. Sertle also contributed defensively with eight rebounds. 

SHULLSBURG 78, MONTICELLO 53

SHULLSBURG — The Ponies and Miners were locked up early, but Shullsburg pulled away for a conference crossover win on Monday, Feb. 19.

Ryer Indergand led with 21 points, shooting 50% beyond the arc (5-for-10). Hunter Grossen also finished in double figures with 10 points. Peyton Smith grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. 

In other local boys basketball, Pecatonica defeated Parkview 59-48.
