WILLIAMS BAY — Albany continued its hot streak with two more wins against Williams Bay on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Belleville on Thursday, Nov. 17. Abby Hollis was the leading scorer in both games, putting up 24 and 16 points, respectively.
In the first half of the Williams Bay game, Hollis put up 12 points with two 3s, two buckets and 2-for-2 trip to the free throw line. Alana Durtschi also had a big half. She scored 11 points on three free throws and four 2-pointers. Combined the two accounted for 23 of the Comet’s 38 first-half points. Albany took a 20-point lead into the half.
Hollis kept her momentum in the second half, sinking another two 3s and three 2-pointers. Albany outscored Williams Bay 27-15 in the second half, for a final of 65-33.
Eight different players scored, with Hollis the top scorer at 24 points. Durtschi also recorded double digits with 16 points. Although Morgan Bronson scored 16 for Williams Bay, no other player could support her offensive effort.
On Thursday, Hollis also scored in double digits to lead Albany to a 53-41 lead over Belleville.
She sank three of her four 3-pointers in the first half, in addition to another bucket. Avary Briggs also drained a shot from beyond the arc in the first half. The 3-pointer was part of her nine-point first-half performance. Albany had an eight-point lead going into the half, as Belleville had five 3-pointers in the first half.
Emerson Briggs led the Comets in the second half, going 2-for-4 from the charity stripe with six other jumpers. Belleville’s DeSmet, who scored five points in the first half, added another six in the second. Her efforts came up short, though, as Albany still outscored Belleville 20-16 in the second half for a 53-41 final.
Four of the six Comet scorers were in double digits: Hollis (16), Briggs (11), Durtschi (11) and Gracie Freitag (10). The Wildcats were unable to get offensive support from their bench, as just the starts made it into the scorebook. DeSmet led them with 11 points followed by Edge with 10.
MONTICELLO 59, JOHNSON CREEK 37
MONTICELLO — The Ponies earned their first win of the season thanks to double-doubles from senior Ellie Gustafson and sophomore Dalana Trumpy.
Gustafson scored 11 points in the first half, followed closely by Molly Olson with 10. With another seven points from Trumpy and five from Jaden Zuber, Monticello had a 20-point lead at half.
In the second, Zuber drained a pair of 3s, while Trumpy added one of her own. In total, the Ponies had seven shots from beyond the arc. Gustafson followed her 10-point first-half performance with an eight-point second half.
Four players scored in double digits: Gustafson (19), Trumpy (15), Olson (12) and Zuber (11). Paired with their offensive numbers Gustafson and Trumpy snagged 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively, for double-doubles.
In other scores, Brodhead beat Turner 69-34, Wisconsin Heights edged Pecatonica 55-50 and East Dubuque defeated Argyle 59-33.
