EDGERTON — The Cheesemakers knew playing at sixth-ranked Edgerton was going to be a tough task. The High Tide lived up to their reputation, winning 74-51. Monroe trailed by 11 at halftime, and then was out-scored by 12 in the second half.
Edgerton was perfect from the charity stripe (11-for-11), and shot 60% from inside the arc (21-for-35). Monroe, meanwhile, shot just under 50% from the paint.
The Tiders out-rebounded Monroe 35-28, scored eight more points in the paint (38-30), had nine more second-chance points (16-7) and scored 20 points off of turnovers to the Cheesemakers’ eight.
Jeremiah Meyer had a double-double to lead the Cheese (18 points, 10 rebounds). Kamrin Gerber-Reamer added 11 points and Mekhi Brown finished with 10.
Jack Fox had 23 points for Edgerton. Teammate Bruce Appel added 20 and Olin Zellmer chipped in another 12.
Brodhead 100, Whitewater 68
BRODHEAD — A hot shooting second half by the host Cardinals gave the fans a little something extra to cheer about in their Rock Valley crossover tilt Jan. 16. Brodhead (5-7, 2-3 RVC-Rock) put up 54 points in the second stanza and reached triple digits on the scoreboard for the first time since Jan. 8, 2024 (101-72 over Whitewater).
Cullen Walker scored 28 points on 13 of 20 shooting. He also grabbed nine boards, dished out six assists and had a steal and a block. Gabe Bockhop was an efficient 8-for-10 from the field — including 4-for-6 from deep — and tallied 22 points. Brody Riese recorded a double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds), and Josh Blum added 12 points of his own.
Reese Condon of Whitewater (1-11, 1-3 RVC-Valley) led his squad with 28 points.
Marshall 70, Belleville 46
BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 in the Capitol South after a letdown at home against one of the league’s preseason title contender picks. Marshall led 38-29 at halftime, then turned it up a notch in the second half, out-scoring Belleville 32-17 over the final 18 minutes of the game.
The visiting Cardinals (10-3, 2-0 Capitol South) had four players in double figures — and another with nine points. Kenyon Miggins led the way with 15 points, followed by Teseo Ruelas (14), Jaylen Miggins (12), Daniel Nickel (12) and Brady Kleinheinz (9).
Bryce Babler led Belleville (4-8) with 14 points. Jackson Scholey, Adam Cann and Brendan Pawloski each had eight points. Pawloski added 14 rebounds.
Cambridge 69, New Glarus 52
CAMBRIDGE — The Knights (7-6, 1-1 Capitol South) took one on the chin in a league matchup Jan. 16. The Blue Jays (11-2, 2-0) jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead and pulled away in the second half.
Cambridge’s offense went through senior Matt Buckman, the defending Conference Player of the Year. The Hillsdale College-commit scored 38 points. He is less than 140 points from 2,000 in his career, having averaged more than 22 ppg for each of the last three seasons.
Albany 54, Monticello 30
ALBANY — The Comets picked up a Six Rivers East win on Jan. 16 over the Ponies. Albany players shot more than 46% from the field — including 47.6% on 21 shots from downtown.
At the intermission, the Comets led 25-15. Albany (7-6, 4-4) out-scored the Ponies in points off turnovers (19-8) and points in the paint (16-2).
Kaden Zurfluh led the hosts with 20 points, while teammate Ty Durtschi also had double digits in the scorebook, finishing the night with 12. Tyler Patchen (8), Caleb Smith (7) and Camron Parker (7) were balanced secondary options for the offense.
Alex Roe led Monticello (5-7, 3-6) with 19 points, while teammate Hunter Grossen tallied eight.
Johnson Creek 74, Monticello 38
JOHNSON CREEK — The Ponies struggled against the high-scoring Blue Jays in a nonconference game Jan. 18.
Hunter Grossen led Monticello with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Johnon Creek (7-5) jumped out to a dominating 43-16 lead by the break. The Blue Jays shot more than 54% from the field, including hitting 8 of 19 threes, twice as many as Monticello despite practically the same amount of attempts.
Johnson Creek won the points off turnovers battle 24-4, had 13 second chance points, and out-scored Monticello in the paint 46-20. The Ponies also turned the ball over 21 times, while the Blue Jays gave it up just nine times.
Barneveld 56, Pecatonica 51
BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings hung with Six Rivers East leader Barneveld all night on Jan. 16, but couldn’t quite overcome the hump. The Eagles led 29-26 at halftime and outscored Pecatonica by two in the second half.
Barneveld had eight players score in the game, compared to just four for Pecatonica.
Griffin Noll led the Vikings with 16 points on 6 of 20 shooting. Charles Anderson had 15 points, Cohlman Schlimgen finished with 11 and Martin Anderson added nine.
Pecatonica 65, Albany 31
BLANCHARDVILLE — Two days after nearly picking off Six Rivers East leader Barneveld, the Vikings were focused in a convincing win over the visiting Comets on Jan. 18.
Pecatonica raced out to a 34-17 advantage by the intermission, and further outscored Albany again by 17 in the second half.
The Vikings shot 55% from the field, including a cool 66.7% from inside the arc. At the line, Pecatonica shooters hit 15 of 17 attempts, while the Comets were 0-for-5 on the night.
Pecatonica also had 23 points off turnovers and 30 points in the paint. The Vikings also dominated the glass, winning the battle of the boards 33-13.
Pec’s Griffin Noll led all players with 26 points. Charles Anderson finished the night with 13 points for the Vikings, Martin Anderson tallied 10 points and eight assists, and Luke Leonard added eight points.
Ty Durtschi led Albany with 14 points while teammate Kaden Zurfluh finished with eight.
In other area games Jan. 16, Argyle rolled Juda 73-37 and Cassville rocketed past Black Hawk 44-36.
