WATERTOWN — The Cheesemakers were swept in boys tennis by Watertown May 26, 7-0.

“Our short-handed and inexperienced lineup was outmatched today against a quality Watertown team,” Monroe coach Matt Bordner said.

Still playing without Chris Andraski, the team’s No. 1 singles player, Monroe simply couldn’t keep up with the Goslings in six of the seven matches.

“We’re hoping to get Chris Andraski back soon at No. 1 singles and then get back to a bit more of a competitive singles lineup,” Bordner said.

Only at No. 1 doubles was a match contested. Charlie Frehner and Aaron Roidt went into a tiebreaker before losing to Patrick Lampe and Dominic Voigt, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(2).

“The only really competitive match today was at No. 1 doubles. Charlie and Aaron both knew this would be a close match, and we stressed getting off to a fast start after the long bus trip to Watertown. They did just that and took care of business in the first set. The second set was close, but I think some just uncharacteristic errors from us were costly,” Bordner said. “The third set went back and forth, and I was so proud of our guys as they fought off multiple match points. We made it to the tiebreaker and jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but two straight double-faults were huge in the momentum shift towards Watertown and they never looked back.”

At No. 1 singles, Ryan Mathiason lost 6-1, 6-1. Ethan Towne at No. 2 singles and Miguel Aragon at No. 3 singles each fell 6-1, 6-0. Chris Giasson, at No. 4 singles, lost 6-1, 6-1.

Mitch Ferguson and Gavin Eckerman were defeated at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, James Seagreaves and Wes Saunders were blanked 6-0, 6-0.

Monroe’s match against Edgewood slated for May 27 was postponed due to the weather to June 2.
