MADISON — Darlington-Black Hawk and Sugar River wrestling had individual champions in the Badger State Invitational held at the Alliant Energy Center on Saturday, Dec. 17. The teams finished second (170 points) and third (169 points), respectively, out of 25 teams.
Owen Seffrood took first in the 138-pound bracket, defeating Chance Suddeth of Stoughton in a narrow 3-1 decision. He made it to the championship with a pin, 12-3 major decision and 7-4 decision.
Breylin Goebel won by injury forfeit in the 160-pound championship. He earned the title with two major decisions (10-1, 11-2) and a 16-1 technical fall 33 seconds into the second period.
Carson Loshaw pinned Ross Crist in the 195-pound championship. Loshaw received two byes before winning the quarterfinal with an 8-4 decision and the semifinal with a pin. Crist got a bye in the first round, then recorded 11-8 and 8-7 decisions. He pinned Sawyer Swiggum in 3:02 to advance to the championship.
Mason Mau (132) and Blake Endres (113) each took second in their respective brackets. Mau pinned his first opponent before recording two decisions (12-5, 9-3). He fell to Aiden Crawley 8-3. Endres had a pin and two major decisions before the championship. Charlie Meudt pinned Endres in 1:39 for the title.
Maddox Goebel (170) finished in the top three for the Warbirds. He pinned his first two opponents before falling to eventual champion Toren Vandenbush. In the third-place match, Maddox Goebel edged Owen Burling by a 5-2 decision.
