MONTICELLO — The Glarner Knights patched together a brilliant game on the mound, and after a few innings getting comfortable at the plate punched out a 10-0 no-hitter victory over Monticello-Albany in a nonconference game April 9.
Eli Zimmerman struck out 11 batters and allowed just two baserunners in four innings — both on walks. Leyton Mihlbauer tossed just 12 pitches in the fifth, striking out one for the Knights, and Patrick Alt closed it out with a scoreless sixth, striking out two while hitting a batter and walking another.
New Glarus scored three runs in the top of the fourth to break a 0-0 draw. The Knights then added another run in the fifth, and put up a 6-spot in the top of the sixth, which led to the mercy-rule victory.
Alt had two hits, including a double and two RBIs for New Glarus. Easton Dreyfus, Brennan Butler, Zimmerman and Cale Weeden all had two runs for the Knights. Zimmerman and Weeden each had two steals.
Brayden Ryan, Carson Gafner and Ray Valentine walked for Monticello-Albany.
Tyler Anderson took the loss for Monticello-Albany allowing just one run in 3.1 innings of work. Gafner was the first out of the bullpen and allowed six runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings on three hits and two walks.
Monticello-Albany committed two errors, while the Glarner Knights were perfect defensively.
