Fury topple SP for 4th time this season
Alyssa Knauf
Fury senior Alyssa Knauf of Albany fires a shot past the Sun Prairie goalie during their game Feb. 14 at SLICE in Monroe.

MONROE — In the seventh meeting of the season, the Fury defeat the Sun Prairie Cougars 4-2. The Fury improves their record against the Cougars to 4-2-1.

Unlike past meetings, the penalty section of the score sheet only had one against the Cougars. The Cougars scored the lone goal in the first period.

Midway through the second period Amery Stuckey shot the puck past the Cougar goalie off of Olivia Combs’ faceoff win. Less than 90 seconds elapsed when Anika Einbeck airmailed a pass up to Alyssa Knauf. Knauf skated from center ice and sniped the puck top shelf for the go-ahead goal.

Both teams scrambled in the third period — the Fury to keep the lead and the Cougars trying to tie the game. With four minutes remaining in regulation, defenseman Sarah Edler shot the puck and Amery Stuckey was there for the rebound to give the Fury a 3-1 lead.

The Cougars pulled their goalie and added an extra attacker with 45 seconds left, but Einbeck got a hold of the puck on a pass from Stuckey and quickly skated to the other end and shot the puck into the empty net sealing the game for the Fury.

Olivia Cronin was strong in net stopping 29 of the 31 shots she faced.

Up next for the Fury are the two final games of the season on February 20 at SLICE against the Bay Area Ice Bears.
